$1: The actor also had to hand over passwords and access to his email, his Facebook and Twitter accounts, and his cellphone text messages for guards to investigate. This would be the point where I'd become less cooperative with the border thugs. ![boxing [boxing]](./images/smilies/box2.gif)

Not saying shit like this doesn't happen on the US side, it obviously does once in awhile. Sometimes you get an asshole going either way. Wouldn't let a friend cross into the USA once because he had a pretty common name, and somebody with the same first, middle and last name in Ontario had a record. The BC driver's license and ID didn't "prove" he wasn't that person.

That border includes all land bordering oceans or the Great Lakes,as well as land borders. Check out the map of affected territory. All of Florida, most of the New England States, most of Michican, parts of every State touching an ocean,Great Lake, or land border are now in Constitution free zones. What about International airports? Those are border crossings as well. Part of your hometown of Sacramento lies within 100 miles of the coast. Imagine DHS setting up a checkpoint in your town. They can seize your laptops, tablets, cellphones, etc. If you refuse to give the passwords, you can be detained for God only knows how long.

Atleast they can still buy guns with ease

I asked the US Border guy for directions once. He pointed at a sign I hadn't seen that showed how to get ont he different highways and said "Can't you read?" I said, "No, sorry, I don't have the benefit of a higher education like you." I got pulled ovet, searched and inexplicably turned back--which is fine, I didn't need to be there anyways. They kept trying to scare me, but I know a few border guards and knew their little techniques. Prety stupid in hindsight, but I was young and It was worth it just to see the guy's face when I said that. One for the good guys.

And gun control supporters wonder why people like me don't trust our government.

Oh, I understand why. The part where the intensity of your distrust varies dependent on which party is in power is what I find puzzling. The Dems are no prize on any given day but on most civil liberties the GOP are absolutely terrifying.

Not trusting your govt, good idea. Getting involved so you get more trustworthy govt, really good idea. Initiating a gun battle to prevent them from seizing your smart phone, not so much.

Just curious, is there any line that government could cross with you where you could envision taking up arms to resist them?

Like you, I see no difference between them and the Democrats.

If I lived in Syria, I guess. But much better to prevent the country from becoming Syria in the first place, not by preparing for some Armageddon. If you're willing to be a martyr for the cause of being able to hang onto your smartphone, go for it. I would think a better venue would be the courts and the voting booth.

The illusion that you'll be able to protect yourself with a gun against a government is laughable at best....especially your government. Secondly, why the paranoia? Seems like lots of living in the past and not realizing that this type of thing doesn't happen in the USA.

Funny... the US came into being because the people mistrusted the government at the time.....not much has changed

And what happens when the courts and the voting booth fail? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Athens_(1946) $1: A number of conflicts arose before the polls closed, the most serious of which was when deputy CM Wise shot and wounded a black man who was trying to vote.[7] As the polls closed, deputies seized ballot boxes and took them to the jail. Opposition veterans responded by arming themselves and marching there. Some of them had raided the National Guard Armory, obtaining arms and ammunition.[9] Estimates of the number of veterans besieging the jail vary from several hundred[9] to as high as 2,000.[7] When the men reached the jail, it was barricaded and manned by 55 deputies. The veterans demanded the ballot boxes but were refused.
"The people who cast the votes don't decide an election, the people who count the votes do." Joseph Stalin
