I think Futureshop is next, they have REALLY gone down hill in the last few months.

BestBuy = Futureshop. Same owners, more suckage.

I refused to shop at Best Buy because they have custom Credit/Debit machines, and refused to tell me if they stored my card # and PIN after the transaction ended.

Good riddance.

I realize that but they haven't given any hints if they are closing their Furturshop stores as well as their Best Buy.

[huh]

$1:
The Future Shop locations set to close are:
West Kelowna, B.C.
Montreal (Forum Entertainment Center)
Laval, Que. (First Pro Ste-Dorothee)
Regent, Man.
Macleod, Alta.
Ancaster, Ont.
Barrie South, Ont.
Erin Mills, Ont.

many of the ones I worked with at Future Shop were less reputable than used car salesmen!

Pre or post takeover?

Shortly after Best Buy bought them out...

IMO worst mistake FS ever made was not hiring me. I put in for a job with them 6 years or so ago, didn't get an interview. Booo!!!

Now I'm the sort of guy who can take cardboard boxes of discarded PC parts and make them run again. So a past time of mine has been to quiz the employees about the products when they ask if I need help (translation: you stealing?).

I ask questions I already know the answers too. Some are really good and know their shit inside and out.

Most? They don't know if they are selling me a flatscreen TV or a blender. That and their incessant attempts to invent reasons for me to buy a product protection plan.

I've had good experiences at Future Shop, especially with their selection of computer related items (keyboards, monitors) being better than Staples. Could care less about Best Buy though. The few times I went in the place was a mess, especially the dvd section, with lots of empty shelves. Why have a greeter at the front door when you can't find a staffer inside?

That is exactly what I have been seeing in the Futureshop in my area.

Could be a store-to-store situation in terms of differing quality of buying experience. The FS's I usually go to are staffed and managed quite well from all appearances but the BB's I went to definitely weren't. No different from Subway I imagine. One gives you the best sammich you've ever had but the one half a klick away leaves you sitting on the toilet for the next two hours. Luck of the draw with anything franchised apparently.

I've always had a good experience when shopping at Best Buy. The staff at my local Best Buy is always helpful and friendly, and have even gone out of their way to help me with something on two occasions.

I stopped shopping at Future Shop some time ago because the staff were always harassing me for a quick sale, or trying to sell me stuff I don't need, or were just rude and/or clueless.

FS locations as well as BB closing... to be expected I guess.

One of the malls here has one of each on the same side of the mall at opposite corners. Haven't been able to figure that one out. It's not even a very big mall. I'm sure one or the other will be toast now.

I can't count the number of times people come into my store say "The guy at the source/staples/FS/BB etc said this" and I have to tell them flat out that person lied to their face. It's really quite sad.

Interesting. I actually like Best Buy over Future Shop. The salespeople there aren't on commission like they are at Future shop so you don't get hassled as much.

Saw this on the news tonight and had to laugh my ass off. Best Buy had some dimwitt spokesman explaining that all warranty, repair and other issues would be taken care of, just at different Best Buy locations so no one would have a problem.

Trouble is they closed all 3 Vancouver Island Locations. So I guess if you have a warranty, repair or other issue with a Best Buy Product you'll have to hop on a BC Ferry pay hundreds of dollars and go to the Mainland to deal with it. 8O

Maybe they should invest a bit of the money they're saving from fucking their staff over into a map app for their dumb phone so they can discover that Vancouver Island isn't a 10 minute drive to Richmond.

And don't say Future Shop will pick up the slack because as been explained to me a thousand times by the staff in both stores. They may be owned by the same corporation but they are completely seperate entities.
