Used to be a big fan of Don, now I find he's just an old fart out of touch with so much.

This is 2013 Don, not 1974.

In general, I don't like flamboyant celebrations of any kind in sports. It's unsportsmanlike. But Yakupov's a kid and this was the kid's first NHL goal, so cut him a little slack. If it becomes an ongoing thing then, yeah, call him out on it.

I wonder what Cherry thought of Theo Fleury's goal celebration in Game 6 against the Oilers in 1991. My guess is that Cherry thought it was fine when it was a Canadian kid was going nuts 'cause he scored a big goal.

Again, please get the facts before automaticly assuming it's because Don "hates" Russians. Don has routinely criticized ANYONE who engages in over the top celebrations.

Actually Lemmy it was his 2nd NHL goal, his first came 2 days earlier against San Jose.

I didn't say that. I know Don's stance on celebrations and I concur with it. But somehow I suspect he thought Fleury's antics were just fine when he scored that goal in '91.

But please get YOUR facts straight too. Don is AT LEAST as firmly on the record as "anti-European" and he is "anti-celebration". He's made those sentiments eminently clear on many occasions. For the record, I concur with Cherry on that, btw. I used to be a big NHL fan until the European-influenced style of play watered the league down to a perpetual series of soft exhibition games. I don't watch the NHL now for the same reasons I used to not watch the All-Star games 20 years ago. The NHL was a better brand of hockey before the Europeans arrived.

I stand corrected.

Hyack Hyack:
He's a 19 year old Russian kid playing in his 3rd NHL game, it was his 2nd goal in the big leagues and a game tying goal against the defending Stanley Cup champions with 5 seconds left in the game. Suck it up Don and let the kid enjoy his success while he can.

Ditto.

We've seen "worse". No biggie and certainly not worth getting into a twist about.
