Notice the emoticon? It was meant as sarcasm...

I know. But I've heard people speak negatively about Nickelback in the past and I've just missed the point. What is it about them that's so scorn-worthy?

I think it's radio rotation frequency. Stations must play a certain % of Canadian content, and the pickings can be slim some times. If you have a top 40 station, you are likely to hear Nickleback several times a day.

$1:
13. Flirt-free Zone in NY

Start spreading the news! Flirting is illegal in New York City. This old law – still in effect in the Big Apple – states that if a man looks “at a woman in that way,” he could be levied with a $25 fine. If he is a repeat flirting offender, he must don a pair of horse-blinders when he’s out in the city. In Little Rock, Arkansas, the punishment is even worse. Get caught lustfully looking at a female, and you could be thrown in jail for 30 days. Canadian males, flirt at your own peril!]
Shit I'm lucky I made it out of NYC...

Would make an interesting TV Show. Go to each State where these laws exist, break them, then make a big deal about it. Would fit right in with countless other shows on History, TLC, and other specialty channels.

Why go to the USA when you've got plenty of suitable examples in Canada?

http://www.dumblaws.com/laws/canada

Haven't checked the link, but sure, why not? Could travel from country to country. Just make sure all those dumb laws are not actually taken seriously in certain places or else bad things may happen.

They already did something like it on CBC. It was a game show called "This is the Law" and starred Paul Soles as the law breaker.

It had a panel that tried to guess whether the idiotic law was in fact a law or something they made up. Not unlike that Urban Myth show today.

Here's a clip for your entertainment. Just get a load of them thar fancy 70's clothes, which could have been used as one of the laws they had for the panel to guess on. :D

I dunno about some of those laws. I thought right turns on a red were ONLY illegal in Quebec until recently.
They had a law in Nova Scotia that made it illegal to feed your slaves lobster more than so many times a week. I think it was removed in the 1980s.

[tangent]Forgive me for missing this cultural meme, but why do some people hate Nickleback so much? I won't buy their music, but I don't see anything so terribly offensive in it, either.[/tangent]

Beats me too. One of the best bands in the world, and I like some of their songs.

You mught see some hate in forums like this, but their record sales (including in Canada) tell a different story.

Same here, I think nickelback is one of the very few decent rock groups of this generation. Probably because they have good influences, like Metallica and ZZ Top and even do good cover versions of their songs, youtube sad but true and sharp dressed man by them.

Because at best, they are a Pearl Jam clone, the 4th or 5th one IIRC. That and Chad is a seriously egotistical dink.

Oh God, when I lived in Windsor it would piss me right the fuck off when I got stuck behind some "dumb yankee" at a red light who would NOT turn right when the way was clear.
