bootlegga bootlegga:
I thought Abrams was going to break the good movie - crap movie - good movie cycle the old Trek movies always went through.

You mean "crap-movie, good movie, crap movie"...it was the odd numbered ones that were turkeys....well, relatively speaking.

Thanos Thanos:
At the beginning Cumberbatch is wearing a Starfleet uniform. As such I'm really hoping that this is a sign that his villain is going to be insane Starfleet Captain Garth of Izar. In TOS Garth had been given the ability by aliens to shapechange so giving him other augmented skills wouldn't be too far away from what his character was in TOS. I love Khan but Ricardo Montalban did the definitive portrayal and I just don't want to see it again.

Agreed. Like I don't want to see anyone play the Joker after Heath Ledger.

Seconded. No fucking Khan. No Borg.
If you can't come up with a new script, don't make it.

I could have done without the recast of Kirk. Only one man can ever play Kirk.

81 year old William Shatner, toupeed up and jammed into a skin-tight body suit TODAY would give a better James T. Kirk portrayal than that cardboard cutout, Chris Pine, that Abrams dragged about the set. It was painful to watch. They should have cast Pine as Captain Pike. He'd be able to handle the post-injury Captain Pike okay. One flash for “yes”, two for “no”.

Shatner IS Kirk. That also means, by the way, that the USA was conquered by Canada before the Star Trek era. Shatner is Kirk and Kirk is Shatner. Shatner is Canadian, so Kirk must also be Canadian. But we know Kirk was born March 22, 2228 in Riverside, Iowa. Which means Iowa must be part of Canada by the 23rd century.

Eh...Khan? Looks fun, but if they do the "KHANNNNN!" yell, I'm going to punch J.J Abrams in the face.

Punch away..

Just finished watching it. What a waste.

Imagine, all that money, all the people that could have been hired,
all the writer's that are laughing at anyone who went to see it.

$200 million, and all they could do is basically a recycle of Star Trek II.

Ricardo would be rolling over in his grave.

Yeah I laughed out loud at that scene. Thank God I shut my brain off while I was watching the movie or I think my head would have exploded from anger.

But...it's Star Trek! Some of the best episodes from the series made you think. Just from DS9, I can list Cardassians, Duet, In the Pale Moon Light, Inter Arma Enim Silent Legas, For The Uniform, etc. Those are my favorite episodes (except for For The Uniform, which was Sisko having his character assassinated to sarcastic remarks from Dax)
