I would NEVER be an apologist for the Stevo Government, but when your homicide rate is low, it only takes a few extra to make for a large percentage rise. I mean really, if there was only one murder in '11 and it goes up to 2 in '12 it's a 100% rise.

Yadda yadda yadda. At one time Abbotsford was tops on the list, now iti didn't even get on the list. Neither did any BC cites. Maybe we'll make it on the list next year again, 'cause we've got a gang war on right now. This stuff goes in cycles. Looking at it year to year isn't very helpful, better to look at long term trends. And those show crime is way down.

Winnipeg's at the top of the list. Where Curt lives. Co-incidence? I think not.

Yep, we've all seen Reefer Madness. We know what evil Mary Jane (Or Happy Stick as the Coloreds call it) makes you do.

Curtman Curtman:
Increasing prohibition increases violence.

It's true every time.

Including firearms?

There are American jurisdictions which have statistics that show that concealed carry of firearms results in less violent crime.

That's not the argument tho.

We don't have prohibition against firearms, we have regulation. You know, what people are suggesting be done with drugs. And just like with guns, drugs would be more or less stringently regulated depending on the danger they represent. On that scale, with current alcohol and cigarette regulation, pot would have almost no restrictions since it's so much less dangerous than cigs or booze. Or we could tighten up on booze and cigs so we don't make a hypocritical mess of our regulations.

I'll bet most people who aren't surrounded by the violence don't think much about it.

Winnipeg is fine, just stay out of the north end entirely and away from the core at night.

It's where most of the city's miscreants live/operate.

Yep. I'm in St. James these days. Someone stole one of the kids scooters last summer, that's about the worst thing I've seen at home since we moved here a year ago.

Like you say, huge chunks of the city live in fear of gangsters who profit from prohibition of drugs and prostitution.

It was a directive from our mayor that brought the current escalation of violence on I think. When our cops take out a dealer, it creates an opportunity that the gangs fight for. When they disrupt a market that is established, gangs battle to control the turf, and people die. They cleaned out pretty much the whole Hell's Angels a few years ago, and it's been getting worse ever since.

Murder rates are also tricky when you factor in emergancy care. The differance between a murder and just an assault can be as little as a few traffic lights in the right configuration letting care get to a location those few seconds faster.

Curtman Curtman:
Its proportional to the market. The bigger the market, the bigger the increase in violence.

Dodge.

Will prohibition on firearms increase violence? It's a simple yes or no.

Yes.

Do you really think I would support prohibiting all guns?

Didn't know. That's why I asked.
