When I'm having a really bad day, I like to re-read "A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich". It reminds me that my day could have been much worse. I feel for those girls.

2Cdo 2Cdo: I noticed that she seemed to run away rather quickly. I guess standing her ground after damaging property is not part of her "protest". Besides that, she's fugly. Oh bah. Where are your eyes man! She was sexy and incendiary and blonde and crazazay and built for speed and probably has a prison record and probably gives it away for free and all the other awesome qualities associated with a genuine Wild Thang. Besides all this is happening in a land where there's no such thing as separation of church and state and where secular democracy barely has a foothold. And no, communism wasn't secular, at least not in the Western sense that we're accustomed to. All it did was replace worship of the Orthodox Church with worship of the Communist Party. And now the church is back full-force, and walking hand in hand with Vladimir Putin's kleptocracy towards a renewed totalitarian social dominance.

BartSimpson BartSimpson: andyt andyt: Bullshit. Did Sandorski hack your account? If not, try to use more than one word in your posts, eh? I usually do, but when one word will do, why waste more?

Wow, cutting down a cross that commemorates a square where a crap load of people, that would have been your allies today, were executed (Kyiv Cross in Ukraine overlooks the square that communists executed dissidents in).
Yup, genius.
I wonder what the response in this forum would have been if she had done this to any other monument made out to those that died for freedom?

There's a certain segment of society that would not have a problem with it at all. We've had the 'white poppy' vermin on here who think it's just fine to vandalize memorials 'in the name of peace' and then there's the virulently anti-Christian groups who would cut down every cross if they could, not just the crosses on memorials. Sad people they are.

Sorry, but she was topless. That excuses just about everything else involved.
And like I said already the church is marching hand-in-hand with all the quasi-dicatators involved here to re-establish an invasive religious autocracy over the lives of the people in Russia and Ukraine. The church is not a force for freedom and can't be exempt from protest when it's an active agent in trying to turn these countries back in the religious-dominated autocracies that they were under the ancient czarist system.

Thanos Thanos: The church...can't be exempt from protest And it is not. But there's a difference between protesting near a church and defiling the holiest site in Russia. As I said before, had they done this outside the church then at the most they'd have been entertained by a truncheon but instead they chose to do this inside the church and, IMHO, they are getting what they deserve. And, as I have said, do the same thing in a mosque in Canada and you'll be going to jail, too.

BartSimpson BartSimpson: And, as I have said, do the same thing in a mosque in Canada and you'll be going to jail, too. Bullshit How did they defile it? What's a mosque got to do with it? Trespass in any religious place and you'll be arrested. Nowhere will you get 2 years of hard labor, or any prison time, likely. You keep dragging the human rights commission into it. They can't jail anybody. And going to a mosque and asking Allah to get rid of Harper would not be something the HRC would get involved in. Probably many Muslims would agree with you. You're letting your Muslim hatred blind you to the facts here. Back up your assertion about Canada. I call bullshit.

I agree with the call of bullshit on Bart's comments. You might hurt a few feelings is you tried that stunt in a church or mosque here but it's highly unlikely you'd spend much time in jail. You might face some sort of fine but that's about it.

andyt andyt: Back up your assertion about Canada. That would involve staging a protest inside a Canadian mosque. Sooner or later someone will do it and we'll see what happens, won't we?

It's not much of an improvement to basically state that Muslims have to "buck up and take it" when it comes to insults and offenses being directed at them but the Orthodox churches in Russian and Ukraine are off limits.

$1: You might hurt a few feelings is you tried that stunt in a church or mosque here
The word here is the keyword. It didn't happen in Canada, or any other secular Western Democracy. It happened in Russia, where if memory serves me right, doesn't share the same laws and values We can rail all we want against the response of the Russian courts and Church. I doubt it will accomplish anything.
