Coming from someone within the auto sector. You're wrong.
Price fixing? That's downright laughable.

You don't know what you're talking about. You may work in the auto industry but you haven't a clue about its history.
How are auto-sales priced?

No Lemmy....that's not how it works. I work in the industry, I'm just curious to see how your going to form your opinion into fact this time around.

Vehicles are not built to only survive for 'x' amount of time.
The only reason we are seeing this is because of the advances in computers and engineering.
Back in the day, everything was over engineered because they were not able to get the level of tolerance and strength down to the degree that we can today. This is done to reduce costs.
It has occurred in every field that uses it. Hell, in construction, we used to use brackets that were a minimum of 1" thick to anchor pedways and bridges. A couple weeks ago we installed one that was a composite weld going from 1/2" to 1/4" tapers. Do you think they designed that pedway to fail? Nope. They just have a very accurate knowledge of how much is needed where, and do everything they can to get a competitive price.

How do car companies do pricing? Answer that question and we'll be on our way. Or dodge.

Nice touch...claim of a dodge when dodging yourself.
You made the claim, back it up. This is typically where your ego ramps up and you puff out the chest and tell everyone how awesome you are and how dare anyone question your word.
