Aside, I know American perceptions on race range from somewhat to severly skewed, but technically speaking if the father is white, his daughter isn't "black", she is mixed race, biracial, etc.

The one-drop rule is a historical colloquial term in the United States for the social classification as black of individuals with any African ancestry; meaning any person with "one drop of black blood" was considered black.
But we get this in Canada too - anybody with a drop of non-white in them will call themselves what ever that non-white drop is. This is especially beneficial if that drop is Aboriginal, but you still get cred if it's any other color but white too. Whites aren't even white but ecru - how bland is that?
