Didn't matter, we didn't need to score more than 10 times a game to get said placement. Lets be realistic, it's almost always going to be a Canada/USA final.

If goal differential had an impact on seeding, no. If it didn't, yes. There's no honour in running up the score.

That used to be the case. The problem with that was that the Soviets and other authoritarian countries had athletes who clearly earned their living as athletes yet were considered amateurs by the IOC.

The hypocrisy of that situation was resolved by simply getting rid of the 'amateur' rule and allowing the best athletes from every country to participate regardless of how they earned a living.

In basketball the result is obvious when the US dominates because of our professionals who excel at the game. But I don't hear anyone complaining when their professional soccer players handily beat the Americans.

Realistically, it didn't. We were winning nearly every game by more than 10 points compared to the next place's 5 or 6. It was unnecessary.

What would the score be if the US team, thrown together a couple of weeks ago, had been practising together as the Argentine national team has over the past several years?
