Second, your statement on the boy dying in Labrador suggests you didn't read the back story nor have much of a clue about life in Labrador.
I know all about the rock, and most people don't die on it each year (even with the amount of effort they put into it). The kid was stupid, and he paid with his life for his mistake.

I guess you missed the part about the delays the military attributed to weather when apparently the weather was quite fine.

Ultimately, it ain't quite as black and white as you are presenting it.

We've got another one of those people, you know, the ones who are never wrong, know everything, never make mistakes... and get all pissy when you you correct them or don't agree with their point of view.

If the military says weather and a civie thinks it's fine to fly looking out his window, maybe the military has more and better information than the guy on the street.

As for it not being black and white, how is anyone else to blame for the boy getting himself killed?

I'm for helping people that do things that get them in trouble in the wilderness, but you don't blame the people trying to help for the person dying. If they were drunk and crashed their chopper they would still hold no blame.

The grandmother lost someone, and it's easy to lash out when the media calls you up and tells you this story and asks for your reaction to it.

The only thing the crew did wrong was get caught. And by get caught I mean post the pictures on the web. Stupid very stupid.

Interesting you have such a high opinion of what a met tech says a few hundred kilcks away compared to buddy on the ground locally.

ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
Would canadian taxpayers be upset to see sailors lounging on deck chairs trolling off the quarter deck?

Probably but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

BTW when sailors used to go trolling they put a corn cobb in a nylon and headed for the Tudor House or Joe Comeau's to see what they could pick up. :D

But like I said before perception is everything. Just look at what happened to the Crossing the Line Ceremony after some dimwitted twat filmed it and then posted it online.

Now the Crossing the line Ceremony consists of a 1 hour video on harrasment and hurt feelings followed by an all ship group hug on the Quarterdeck.

That group hug, however, is preceded by a no fraternization video and a no appropriate hugging video.

Afterwhich, the officers retire to the wardroom and insert cigars into each others sphincters.

I was one of the "many come but few are chosen" branch. :D

But, I knew alot of Stewards who would have loved to jam a cigar up their XO's sphincter but had to settle instead for looping the lizard in his soup.

Hence the quote:

Many come but few are chosen that's why I'm a ---------------

I once made the mistake of telling a P2 Recruiting Officer that I wanted the most sea going trade in the Navy, I got it. He also informed me that Cornwallis was like a health spa. I could go swimming in one of their olympic size swimming pools, use the Golf Course in town, have a large beach to frolick on and feast myself on Digby Scallops whenever I wanted.

What he forgot to tell me was that I'd spend hours involuntarily, swimming lengths in the Olympic sized pools, running miles of cross country on the golf course, rowing a 27 foot whaler along the beautiful beach in vile november weather and the only digby scallops i'd see would be running down the windows of the Bay Ferry when a bunch of civies got green assed seasick during a rough crossing. :D

Nice place that Cornwallis.
