I had my tonsils removed with I was 11. NEVER had so much pain in my life. My daughter had them taken out when she was 3, She doesn't remember a thing...

Btw, I wouldn't circumcise my baby boys. But to make it illegal? Nah.
Nanny state much?

What about female circumcision. I think that is currently banned in Canada. Is that nanny state?

Why you would want to make the first few days of your son's life start off with a painful operation sans anesthetic is beyond me. Other than for pagan reasons.

Dunno what world YOU live in, but for most of us there couldn't be a better way to prepare a kid for real life.
Welcome to the world boy. This is what it's all about...

Doctors circumcise boys for health reasons. There is no medical grounds for female genital mutilation, other than evil monkeys run those societies.

Most medical associations do not consider male circumcision medically necessary, and do not, consequently, routinely perform them. The health reasons make some sense in areas like sub-Saharan Africa, where poor hygiene is uncommon. And they probably made sense a thousand years ago as well, the same as separating utensils for dairy products and not eating pig.

I wouldn't make it illegal, simply because it's been practiced for millenia with little harm. But in modern North America and Europe it's essentially a religious practice.

In the last 20 years it's become more of a religious thing in North America. Prior to that it was SOP for North American males to be snipped within few days of being born. it was strictly medical rather than religious.. Europeans didn't really do the snip.

I am born with 4 nipples. When I was about 13-14 yo, my mother told me that she really wanted to remove the other 2 surgically but she decided that it was me to decide.

I'm quite glad she took that decision. I made some money in parties ! XD

Actually last few times I've checked the story has been that circumcision has no medical benefits that are demonstrable. The site old guy linked to is a very biast pro circumcision site.

I normally don't like to do this but Penn and Teller did a great bit on this topic on Bullshit i feel addresses the situation very well.

Warning : Video contains swearing and lots of tits and dicks not safe for work or kids.

There is a little difference between taking off a little piece of skin, and half a vagina. Of course, when you compare female circumcision with removing a boys testicles or just half his penis (or his whole penis), you have a point. And for as far as I know, THAT is illegal.

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
Banning circumcision on Jewish males is no more offensive to me than banning female genital mutilation on Islamic girls or how some countries ban ear piercing or tattoos on children.

If they want to do it at age 18 and of their own free will then let them. But a secular state has the right to proscribe physical modification in children while still respecting the religious liberties of adults.

Boys that are uncircumcised are much more likely to get UTI's, STD's, etc.

95% of boys that have an penile infection are uncircumcised.

Almost ALL males with penile cancer are uncircumcised.

I'm not at all religious yet had my son circumcised the day after he was born. Looks better and reduced his risk of having medical issues as a child and as an adult.

There are multiple types of female circumcision.

Of all the female circumcisions performed, Type Ia was the most prevalent.

Type Ia is the removal of the clitoral hood, and only the clitoral hood.

Which is very similar to male circumcision.

The incidents of the more extreme female circumcisions (although widely used in the media) were actually quite rare.

Had to do a study on it while at university.

But that is what is meant when female circumcision is mentioned. Also, female circumcision is done for the sole reason of not letting women enjoy sex. Or having orgasms at all. Which makes it a power thing.

Male circumcision is not done for that reason.
