yes it's a sad fact that the right has trouble coming up with funny people. Intentionally funny people, that is.

There's plenty of talented conservatives in Hollywood and entertainment the thing is that they don't speak up against the thought police unless they're rich enough and powerful enough to do so.

I see two already jumping on the "it's okay if Barry slips up" train.

Yep, and looks like one ticket for the "the right is holier than the left" has already been sold as well.

You want to lambaste Obama for his comment, go for it. Making such an inane comment, when the right does exactly the same thing - what did that accomplish?

I don't think anyone meant to say it was a Death Camp run by Polish Nazi's. I can see a mistake like that easily being made. It was in Poland. And that is where it stops.

I agree it was a simple mistake that warrants an apology but I wonder what the lefties reaction would have been if Bush or Palin said it! 8O
Well, they are both idiots, so that fact alone would warrant ANY reaction :P

$1:
You know that Bill Maher and Jon Stewart would be all over this like a fat kid on a smarties if it was any right wing politician.

I would like no one being all over this, actually.

Just like Mitt Romney's people misspelled "America" on his sites (or something...) and it turned out "Amercia". Stupid. Human typo. Get over it. No need to get all excited over petty shit like this... I bet it will be allllll over the media...

Andy, Bush made idiotic gaffes and the man made no pretensions about being an orator or a great speaker. Even WE thought he was silly when he spoke.

Obama promotes himself as being the 'most intelligent' President since Thomas Jefferson yet he keeps doing stuff like this and, of note, these insults seem to always be aimed at our allies. I cannot think of even one spoken error or fault of protocol that Obama has made to China, Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, or etc.

Unsound Unsound:
While I completely understand why the Poles are upset, I also think it's an easy mistake to make. It was a camp in Poland. It was run by Germans to be sure, but there were also Poles who worked there.

Yep, that's about it. They apologized for it and that should be the end of it.

I don't agree. Barry and his people should have this shit figured out, and words and symbolism are important. Who can blame the Poles, who suffered so much in the war, if they're touchy about this.

Barry deserves a spanking over this. I think you might be being a bit paranoid about it tho.

And Barry actually said "I'm the most intelligent President since TJ?" He deserves a real spanking for saying that.

The comedians tend to be left and the angry pundits on the right, has been my observation.

I wasn't commenting on Obama's comments at all actually. Just that the response of the left tends to be to ridicule and the response of the right tends to be to rage. Your post supports the general argument.

I think you misread what I said.
I don't think I said "yo, Poles, shut up, shit happens".

I think I said that when it comes to comedians, I would not like any of them being all over this.

But hey, if you think I blame the Poles and say they are pussies, whatever. Says more about you than about me.

No, the comedians who generally get the support of Hollywood are leftists.

But some of those ersatz leftists eventually 'come out' once they have enough sway that they can ignore the thought police.

Jeff Foxworthy, Dennis Miller, Ron White, Chris Rock, and Dennis Leary are examples of comedians whose political humor definitely does not hew to the leftist party line. Sure, they're not always 'family friendly' but they sure are funny.

Foxworthy can be very funny. "Mom, Jimmy put ammonium sulphate in my eye." "Jimmy, you quite annoying your brother. You kids go play with your wood burning kit."

Ron White seemed funnier to me before he got so fat.

Like Dennis Leary and his Fucking Merry Christmas special.

Of the ones you mentioned, it seems to me that only Miller drinks the Republicon Kool Aid. Foxworthy probably does, but I haven't seen him talk about it much.

You're mixing up being non-pc with being rightwing, I think. The right have their ideas of what is pc just as much as the left. The term pc in fact came from the left. Bill Maher certainly isn't pc.

I'm trying to find the Thomas Jefferson quote (in a book) but I did come across this quote in 'The Amateur' (page 21). The speaker is Prof. Richard Epstein of University of Chicago Law School who was a colleague of Obama's:

$1:
Obama saw himself as a genuine intellectual, which he definitely was not. His course was very popular and he was an engaging teacher, but not one with a serious academic set of interests. The members of the faculty reserved a round table for ten in the Quadrangle Club, where we had lunch and engaged in an intense intellectual exchange. We had a no-sports and no-politics rule and a single topic rule. Everybody bashed everybody. You put yourself once more into the breach and prepared to have the guillotine come down on your head. But Barack Obama never attended these lunches. I firmly believe that this systematic withdrawal from engagement with other members of the faculty stemmed from him not wanting to put himself at intellectual risk.

You're not really going to hold that up as a criticism are you? He actually is a very good orator. I wouldn't be surprised if Jefferson made the odd mistake as well. Barry was a professor at a prestigious university - most people would deem that being an intellectual. If some colleague wants to snipe at him, I don't think that makes Barry Homer Simpson, or even George Bush.

He deserves criticism for his gaffe - this stuff is important. But I think you're way overstretching here.

I think the difference is most of the more right leaning comedians don't do a lot of political comedy. They might be funny, but if politics comes into it it's usually ina "red neck" way. They get laughs by playing up the stupididty or ignorance of their red-neck ways. The left-leaning are more likely to point out absurdities in a funny way.
