andyt andyt: From the article: $1: Many point to the 1997 protests at the APEC Conference in Vancouver as the genesis of Canada’s riot culture. It made household names of protester Jaggi Singh and RCMP Staff Sgt. Hugh Stewart, dubbed Sgt. Pepper because of his liberal application of pepper spray.
It seemed the battle lines, inherited by most protests since, were drawn during that hectic week.
APEC led to a public inquiry, where deficiencies in police planning and action were chronicled and with many of those same complaints echoed in this week’s report on the G20, it raises questions of what has been learned. From wiki: $1: In one of the findings condemning RCMP behavior issued in the final report by the Commission, it was noted that: "Mr. Jaggi Singh was arrested on a warrant based on a spurious charge; the manner of his arrest was inappropriate in the circumstances; the timing of the arrest was calculated to prevent him from attending protests on November 25; the bail conditions sought were overly restrictive." What's more worrisome, a few dozen blockheads running riot, or the police throwing civil rights out the window? For me, the whole thing started with the "Gastown riot" in 1971. Up until then, the cops could just kick ass, because it was just hippies' asses they were kicking. At the Gastown smoke-in, (very peaceful, as they have been ever since) the cops went bezerk and rode down tourists and moms and pops with their horses. They lost a lot of cred from then on. I'm of the opinion that more pepper spray is not necessarily an evil.

Since when do Police issue warrants and set bail conditions? That's the legal system.

Well, the ones that are in favour of the police better watch out for what they wish for. It is becoming a police state, like it or not. The end of pardons to people that have done stupid things in the past when they were younger is near. Should someone that did a B and E at 18 be punished until the day they die? Hardly! They did their time and paid their debts to society as a whole. Is this justice? Might as well cut their hands off! Might as well be like some countries in the Middle East, right? Civil disobedience is not necessarily a bad thing. It is when you get a few shit disturbers into the mix. And who suffers? The people that are using their right to demonstrate. And the cops? Well, they target everyone in a situation like this. That is worrisome and tells me our rights are getting whittled away a little more each day. Just the dumb dumbs don't see this. This isn't targeted to anyone on this board, by the way. So, keep your shit flinging to yourselves. If anyone is really interested, take a look on the net for police brutality vids. Take a look at one officer did to a man in Kelowna, B.C. Kicked the guy square in the face when he was on his hands and knees. I guess he couldn't get down fast enough. And no, the guy that was pulled over didn't deserve it.

Lol! I love that pic, but I cannot remember; is it during the riots in Vancouver? Sorry, I do realize that this thread is about riots; I had to throw my two bits in, ya know?
The end to pardons is not wholly true. I do feel, however, that it is a stepping stone to a much harsher reality. My opinion; you don't have to agree with it. I am entitled to my opinion in this country afterall; its my civil right; at least, for the moment.

Re-read my post. I said it is becoming a police state. And yes, I am entitled to my opinion, for the moment. Its been a while since I've been on here, Gunnair, and I can see why. You are all uptight! Get out and get some air and some sunshine! Go get some ass! I say this light-heartedly. Its well past my bedtime. Early to bed, early to rise. Good night CKA'ers!

Mind if I ask where you get your information because it sure as hell isn't from Pardons Canada or any other Government site? $1: 1B. What are the new waiting periods and rules regarding Canada Pardons/Record Suspensions? New waiting periods are: 5 years for all Summary convictions and 10 years for all Indictable convictions, starting after all dispositions have been served. If you have a Schedule 1 sexual conviction involving a child, you are no longer eligible to receive a Pardon. Also, if you have 3 or more Indictable convictions, each with a prison sentence of 2 years or more, you are no longer eligible to receive a Pardon. Note: For all offenses you now must write a Personal Letter of Rehabilitation (Step to the PBC. Hell you can even be pardoned for sexual offences not involving children. $1: Can I be Pardoned for sexual and other injury offenses?
Yes, after being of good conduct for 5 or 10 years. However, your name will be flagged in the Canada National Repository. This means if you are going to work around vulnerable people such as children, seniors or disabled individuals, you will be required to disclose your past criminal history to the employer before employment. So given your vehement oposition to the Govenrment doing it's job, do you consider things like sexual convictions involving children or being an habitual offender just a stupid things done when the criminals were young because from what I can glean they're the only ones not elligible for a pardon. Or, do you think 5 and 10 years is to long a time for a convicted criminal to wait to get his record cleared? Given our lax judicial system, not being able to get a pardon at will seems like the only punishment some of criminals will ever get. BTW...................is that you Graham James.

norad norad: Actually, I do enjoy it everyday! Thanks for your concern! Now, go get laid! And yet you seem worried enough to unload a pile of hyperbole... or was it mere exaggeration based on fear and ignorance? Frankly, I have a bit more concerned about those that have adopted the culture of fear flogged by the media to the point that anything frightens them - especially the police. Somehow it leads them to attack the status quo in an apparent effort to actualize the fear they have while normalizing the media sensationalism through ignorant statements liking our society to police state and our police forces to the Gestapo. Sadly, this is indicative of the terrible lack of intelligence brought to the table by the sad army of terrified alarmists we are saddled with these days.

Worried? Naw. Hyperbole? Hardly.
Its about power-end of story.
This is fun though. The way you guys all get up at arms. Don't you ever grow tired of this shit?
I'll be back on here; in another 3 or 4 years, and you would still be on here, wasting another 3 or 4 years of your life. Such a waste....its sad.
