I believe this particular article is about a (former) cop committing a crime, not about a teacher, politician, lawyer or parent, for that matter.

How do you define authority figures? Do you mean the guys making the laws, enforcing them, interpreting them, and/or defending them? Does that also include major names in business and/or culture since they have a large number of people that look up and listen to them.

I've said it before, as long as there's a demand, there will be someone who produces and distributes... drugs, child porn and anything else, legal or not. Take down one producer, another will take his place.

If you want to make a dent in this, hurt the consumer, bad. Make it a real deterrent, not a slap on the wrist. Doesn't mean you don't do treatment too because these people are very sick. But if treatment doesn't stick, treat them as a danger to society and lock 'em up for good. How's that for a deterrent?

Me too. They have a further onus on them to be legit. Unfortunately, the judge often says "you've lost your career as a cop, you've suffered enough, and gives a lighter sentence." And, in many instances, the cop is given a discharge so he can remain a cop.
