That's perception, not reality. Sick credits are rarely used. They disappear when the worker retires. It's not a bad deal to give workers something that costs you nothing, especially when you can get the union to give up something else that WOULD have cost you something in exchange for banking sick days.

Is that a new thing? Cuz my dad retired in 1990 with something crazy like 38 weeks(at least) of paid sick days that was paid to him lump sum. Bad deal for the taxpayers in that instance.

Pretty new, sort of. Did your dad get paid for every sick day he had banked? If so, that's EXTREMELY rare. Few retirement sick-day payout agreements were ever 1-for-1. Teachers in Ontario lost sick day payouts as a retirement gratuity in 1997. But it wasn't a FULL payout of sick days banked. Ontario teachers were allowed to bank up to 280 sick days, and if they retired with all of them, they got a payout of 40 days.

Still, if it your dad had used those sick days during his career, he wouldn't have got the same payout at the end. What's wrong with rewarding a worker at retirement for good attendance over his/her career? It wasn't a bad deal for the taxpayer if your dad was a responsible worker and showed up every day for 30+ years.

Great idea, abuse something that is basicly a privilege. :?

I've got 3 office girls. The one is a solid, dependable worker who only take sick days off when she need them. Anouther is a work aholic who I basically have to make go home when she's sick and then there is the third one, the one who calls in sick just about every time I turn around. I never had a rule about paid sick days until she came along but she basically ruined that for everyone because she abuses it so badly.

The part that makes me really mad about though isn't the lost time, its the dishonesty. She all ways calls in sick on a Friday or a Monday and then shows up the next work day pretending to cough and sniff. It's so fucking fake it makes me feel like yelling at her to cut it out, it's pathetic. Does she honestly think we're a bunch of retards or something? And the worst thing about it is that im a pretty easy going guy. If she were just honest with me and asked for the day off I probably wouldnt have a problem with it so long as the office wasnt buisy.

The other part that pisses me off is that when one of the other girls is genuinely sick they can't take the day off if she's gone. My little workaholic showed up so sick 2 weeks ago a nearly had to take her home myself and guess what, little miss never shows upcalled in right after with some bullshit story and a fake cough. So then I had to get ahold of the other girl, get her to come in early and stay late on her day off. I think I'll be making some changes this summer :x

Seriously, it'd be less effort for you bums if you just worked every day at something instead of devoting your existence to trying to steal what other people have worked for.


Your problem is not me stealing from you (I own my own business and work every day).

Your problem is you think that the regular people who work or don't work or whatever are stealing form you. In fact more of your money goes to the military and/or to rich corporations and/or to those millionaires and billionaires who are giving our politicians billions to bet elected so they can funnel your money in their direction.

Every Home Depot and Walmart and Costco pays their staff shit. But we pay for those companies to come to our cities with tax breaks and infrastructure. Instead of having local people produce and sell LOCAL goods, these same people make little more than minimum wage to pawn foreign made products. The profits go to the company which is not generally headquartered in your city. The wages the workers are making are barely above the tax threshold for actually PAYING anything. Those same wages are near poverty level.

Instead of having local industries producing goods for local markets (ya you can still find some craft sales and flea/farmer's markets) everything is imported and our money is exported from our local economy. We've given these companies tax breaks to put local people out of business. These organizations have no interest in anything but profit and survival.

Take Oasis - the juice company - suing the shit out of some poor lady who sells Oasis Skin care products out of her little store (Olivia's Oasis). She won but was out $100,000 it cost to defend herself.

Now riddle me this: Once all the markets are saturated with this sort of corporate greed - where do the rest of us fit in? The laws and the government (paid for by those corporations) are not going to change to allow Olivia's Oasis to be protected from corporations "Trade Mark Infringement Lawsuit/Sport" unless WE THE PEOPLE stand against this sort of thing.

So ya, if you are OWNED by the corporations and the government they paid for, sit on your hands and let's all be little Walmart peons and thank the rich people for poverty level wages while they sock away billions and billions that they can NEVER SPEND IN THEIR LIFETIMES ANYWAYS.

We just got handed another two years of work before we can access the CPP which most of us have contributed to with every paycheque for our entire working life. For me that is 20+ years. Yet barely a peep when harper rammed that 2 year long dildo up your asses.

Which leads me to believe that the farmer has given his sheep (you) enough food and shelter to live on, and you are all content to say nothing. Yet the pigs are at the trough laughing because they have it way, way better, and they've trained all the sheep to accept their lot in life.

You people are pathetic. And ya, if my guys want the day off then so be it. Because although I make a decent living, I think 95% of us could benefit from a better system for all of us at the expense of the other 5%. Those rich people don't care about us, why do you love them so much?
