Brenda Brenda: Wooooot! So as an immigrant, I can just do whatever the hell I want? Oh crap, I'm white. Nope. All of a sudden, not a minority anymore. No, as a Netherlander, you can attack Spaniards and Catholics with impunity due to "historic injustices..." and Spanish Catholics doubly so... have fun

$1: As Mr. Louie stood before her, however, hands clasped in front of him, she warned him that any breach of her strict conditions, including a ban on drugs and alcohol, would likely send him to prison.
“You have much at stake,” the judge told Mr. Louie, “and the eyes of the community are on you.” I wonder how many times we'll hear this bullshit since we all know that it looks good in print but will never be put into practice when it comes to the Natives.

$1: where his FASD can be dealt with appropriately.
Umm FASD isn't really 'treatable' because the damage done is irreversible. it's like trying to treat Downs Syndrome or Autism. They can try and teach him coping mechanisms but their ability to retain lessons is impaired. As well some of those who suffer from it, have sociopathic like traits. They are incapable of contemplating the consequences of their actions. It's like trying to pour water into a sock...eventually it all just drains away. When I was teaching up north, I had several students with FASD to varying degrees and often it was multi generational which helped to exacerbate an already complex problem.

andyt andyt: We've had lots of driver attacks here - nobody got a really stiff sentence. And there in lies the problem. You can spin it anyway you want, yellow, white, green, black, brown but the fact remains, crime is crime and our dysfunctional Judicial System is failing to carryout it's primary function of protecting the public.

That said, there are a lot of FAS people out there not punching out random people, somehow they manage. Regardless of what his issue is he's still an obvious danger to the public and needs to at least be removed for a time out (ie. jail) even if it does not fix him, at least he'll be off the streets for a few months.

We know he won't go to jail because the Supreme court just said so. Can't revoke parole on violent offenders who break it. Gladue must be obeyed.

I know that - that's why I didn't say treated, I said dealt with - and that method (which I also mentioned) is usually hospitalization (although some might unfairly characterize it as incarceration) and 24/7/365 care at a mental health facility. His stay might be for months, years or even the rest of his life, depending on the diagnosis given there.

http://www.edmontonsun.com/2012/04/04/r ... ing-boozerSoooo... if I as a landlord were to say "well, historically, 'Native People' make for lousy tenants as they usually tend to destroy property and are always late with the rent, and move 10 relatives into the 2 bedroom apartment, along with their own family of 5 people and then are always having big, noisy parties with alcohol & drugs, often requiring police intervention, so I won't rent to Natives..."

They are sub human and or stupid. They don't know any better and are incapable of improving their lot in life , so why should we hold them to standards they can't possibly meet.
That seems to be the message that is being sent. This is a slap in the face to all aboriginals who persevered and succeeded despite the adversity they faced in their lives.

his sounds insane. There are a number of people in North America that have mental "issues" (for lack of a better word) but are able to cope and be useful members of society. If someone is that much on edge and can get that violent in a public setting he that he needs to be in an environment where he can be controlled to protect the rest of society.
