You make it sound as though "let's wait" was the wrong thing to do. What does it hurt to wait before leaping to conclusions? Didn't we learn from what happened in Norway? Although I agree that it's gotten to be pretty safe odds to blame this kind of thing on jihadis, it is obvious by now that no one has a monopoly on crazy.

Most Israelis could be categorized as agnostics or atheists too, and many that do believe there is 'something', aren't overly observant. Some of the best smoked ham crepes I've had have been from a little restaurant just north of Haifa, near the Lebanese border. Three kinds of cheeese, onions, tomatoes, peppers...well you get the picture, not exactly kosher.
ASIDE:
Funny how some whiners claim that polite discussions are impossible here. Yet when they aren't involved, 95%(the occasional drive by foiler being the 5%) of the discussions are extremely civil, even when there are differing opinions

Because they tend to be successful, educated, they generally have good morals, and they are exceptional stewards of their resources.

Look at Israel.

Literally.

Go on Google Earth and look at how the Israeli territory is green and in some places forested while everything else is practically devoid of vegetation.

And then the Israelis have a pretty decent econmomy despite being a relative island in the region.

Ignorant people find it easier to hate them for their success instead of learning from them and working hard to emulate their success. Simple as that.

Not really. Now they can't interrogate him, see who else is involved. Even without torture, a lot of these guys start singing like birds once they are captured.
