martin14 martin14: Gunnair Gunnair: ASLplease ASLplease: not meaning to give you guys a hard time, but seem to be spending way too much time worrying about theives getting shot instead of raising your kids not to steal. It sounds a lot like the speeder that whines when he get a speeding ticket.
quads are expensive. it is more like grand theft auto than it is like stealing a person's bicycle. I sense an effort to trivialize theft of expensive items. I know from exerience, stealing a man's quad is stealing several years worth of bank payments which represents a lot of work for him.
In the old west, horse theives were hung. I'll bet there were alot less parents teaching their kids its ok to steal horses, compared to the amount of liberals that are teaching their kids that stealing large items like quads is ok.
"dont worry, billy. if you get caught, they can't shoot you in the back" You're as contemptable as the thief, if not more so because you think your illegal actions are somehow alright. At least the thief knows he's doing wrong. No matter how you try to buttress your arguments to attain the moral highground, you are wallowing below the ethical sea level. wow, gunny, waxing poetic a little early today ? Coffee... lots of coffee.

He exited his home then decided to "shoot in the direction" of the would be thieves. Spare me, please. He was defending his property on his property. Sucks he is getting charged IN CANADA IF YOU CAN RETREAT AND OR LEAVE AND NO ONE IS IN IMMEDIATE DANGER YOU CANT USE FORCE/ DEADLY FORCE ON ANY ONE.. I FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY TOO

It's called 'reasonable force'. A very old common-law concept.

EyeBrock EyeBrock: Minimum force to stop the offence.
It's a simple concept. The bad guy's actions dictate the level of force used and when that force's application stops.
Bad guy stops fighting, good guys stop hitting him.
That's called enforcement. What some of you guys are advocating is mob-rule and excessive force and not at all civilised.

'Your' concept being- a slap on the fingers with the admonishment " Now, now. Don't do that again. OK"! While mine is more to the point of "SLAP THE BEJESUS OUTTA THEM, MAKE SURE I GET THEIR COMPLETE AND UNDIVIDED ATTENTION, THEN INSTILL SUCH A TERROR INTO THEM THAT THEY ARE SURE TO CHANGE THEIR WAYS" !

Great, maybe buddy should have shot them in the driveway or wherever instead of waiting for them to leave, THEN pulling out his gun and firing blindly in their direction. I'm not the least bit upset one of them got shot. I'm pissed off about how the dude John Wayne'd it. The "confrontation was over, the would be thieves decided to leave since they weren't gonna get what they came for. Doesn't sound very reasonable to me.

'Resonable force' comes from the rule of law. I'm baffled how this escapes you, or I'm apalled at how little it means to you. As I've mentioned earlier, the stance that the law does not apply to you is the same as the thief. In the end, you're no better than they are.

I FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY TOO That's a damn shame if the law is really written that way, sounds like if thieves come, I should run out the back door of my own house and let whoever have at it. It's basically what is being enforced in the UK these days, and sorry but it's flat out wrong.

That's the one place I don't agree with our laws martin. Once someone breaks into your home, they should be fair game.

Get a passport , a time machine, and have a nice trip. And personally, I could care less how well endowed horse thieves were back then

andyt andyt: Nope, I agree with you. Anybody comes on your property, then turns around and leaves deserves to be shot in the back. You must be hell on postmen, pardon me, mail delivery personnel.
nah, even mormons and Jahova witnesses are able to leave without getting shot at. Like most hard working citizens in the country, I am able to exhibit some good solid basic common sense.

well, this is where we will forever disagree. I am no where near as contemptable as a theif, or a murderer, or a rapist.....or any other scumbag that bleeding heart liberals love to worry about. I am just an average hard working Canadian, and I get really pissed off at liberal ideas like "the average Canadian is too stupid to vote", "the average Canadian can not be trusted with a firearm", and "the average Canadian should not be allowed to defend himself or his property" Contempt? I think that you have contempt for the average Canadian. These are attitudes that have to stop, ffs.

I'm not talking about protecting life and limb of yourself and family, I'm talking about material possessions, specifically those that aren't in the house.
