Its easy to find tory diatribe as well and the tories have been twisting facts since confederation and before. .. Sir John was probably drunk as usual when he ordered the execution.

Sir John A's party was originally called the "Liberal Conservative Party" and Macdonald referred to himself as a liberal. His party has no more connection (in historical terms or policy terms) to the modern Conservative Party of Canada than with the modern Liberal Party. You have a knee-jerk aversion to the word "conservative" that has no basis in the reality of Macdonald's politics. The media referred to Macdonald's party as "tories", but that, likewise, has NO connection to modern incarnations of the Conservative Party of Canada. You're taking your contemporary hatred for anything called "Conservative" and applying it to something that was completely different 150 years ago. Macdonald was a liberal.

Most Liberals, pre Trudeau, would likely feel more at home in a Conservative Party(or at least the Progressive Conservative Party) as well.

Except for St. Laurent. Louis LIVED to spend tax dollars. His first rule of government spending was "Why have one when you can two at twice the price?". He'd be a dipper for sure.

Sure, he was a drunk. Crook? Well, what we call "corrupt" today was the way politics were handled in the 19th century. Was he corrupt? Absolutely, by today's standards, but he was pretty tame compared to, say, New York City Tammany Hall politics of the same period. Kickbacks were the way campaigns were funded then. And he wasn't a crook like Mulroney. He wasn't lining his own pockets.

Gee I wonder which province has had the most corruption in politics/government in the past 100 years? Which province has the most corrupt police(provincial constabulary) force in Canada?
