MAC1767 MAC1767:
EYEBROCK,

question?

if YOU lived in another country, trying to make a living, while keeping ties to your home country, and you sent your kids to school, would you like it if they wanted your kids to sing a national anthem?

i want my kids to sing it, i want everyone to sing it, but if they dont want to you cant force them to,nobody can.

Then why come here?
Brenda isn't here because she has been transferred from Phillips in Amsterdam for a two year stint in Canada, she's here because she has emigrated from the Netherlands to Canada.

I think that immigrants to our country should be singing our National Anthem.
They chose to move to Canada and leave their country of birth behind them.
If they don't want to sing it I suggest that these are not the sort of immigrants that we should be encouraging to move to Canada. We should have immigrants coming here that want to commit to Canada.

I’m an immigrant, I’ve been here for 15 years. I became a citizen as quickly as I could. I want to be a Canadian.
I still watch Coronation Street and listen to the BBC, but I do sing 'O Canada'. Singing our Anthem isn’t too much to ask of immigrants to the best country in the world.

True Patriot Love mate.

EyeBrock EyeBrock:
I don't even know if there is such a thing as "British snobbery in Canada".

I do know that the 2 times I've been back in 15 years, I couldn't wait to get back home to Canada.

That's the way to get rid of it. No doubt I was a bit of a "British snob" at first but my three weeks in Blighty sure cured me of that. [B-o]

Funny thing tho, that when canadian citizens do the same in another country, it is "OF COURSE you dont give up your citizenship or take on another" :) Gotta love the hypocrisy :D

I'm have no intention of living in another country, outside of my job sending me into the latest shithole for 6 or 7 months. Take up this point with someone who it reflects.

Its not new. They already sung it every day, until someone complained about it, and the principal gave up his job because he stopped playing it everyday.

Just don't move to BC.

If kids (or their parents) don't want to sing the National Anthem, for WHATEVER reason, they shouldn't be forced to. But they should have to stand up and shut up for 30 seconds, out of respect, while the rest of the school either listens to or sings the tune. Where the hell has the common sense in our society disappeared to?

WHOAAA

Talk about the Pot calling the Kettle Black

Christ Brenda, if you took your own advice, your post count would only be around 500.

Mind you if you want to get technical, I guess being a non-citizen who has such an uppity opinion of how things should run here in Canada, you should really just STFU as being an outsider, none of this concerns YOU.

I live here, I pay taxes, just as you do. Outsider? Nah...

I don't recall I ever said how things should be run in Canada though. I just gave my personal opinion. That you don't agree, fine. Doesn't mean you have to twist my words.
