$1:
According to these class models the lower middle class is located roughly between the 52nd and 84th percentile of society. In terms of personal income distribution in 2005, that would mean gross annual personal incomes from about $32,500 to $60,000.[20] As 42% of all households, and the majority of those in the top 40%, had two income earners, household income figures would be significantly higher, ranging from roughly $50,000 to $100,000 annually
.

As personal goes 32,500 to 60,000 is lower middle class.

As a family 50,000 to 100,000 annually is lower middle class.

At least that is how I read it.

A single parent family with 3 kids... Anyhow, it is not that important, middle class doesn't start at a 100K, thats for sure...

You still haven't told me what my surgery and embolism would have cost me in the US, as a single mom, middle class income family of 4, who's boss doesn't pay for insurance yet ;-)

Sorry would not know how much it would cost I have insurance that pays for that.

My employee that makes 36,000 a year has insurance that covers that.

At 50,000 gross a year with 3 kids apply for medicade they will pay for you.

Medicare is for seniors (people 65 and older)

Medicaid is for lower income.

My company that I own gladly pays 975 dollars a month for Health insurance for my family of 4 so it comes out to 250 per month per person. thats freakin cheap in my book.

Not in my book...that's more than I used to pay all YEAR for coverage here in Alberta. Even families only used to pay $88 a month. No wonder there's so many people without coverage.

And your taxes pay for what???? we know its not defence. You dont have to worry about that one.

A far better social safety net than your nation. Perhaps if the US wasn't so interested in keeping everyone else down (by spending 4-5 times its closest competitor, and more than then the next 4 or 5 countries combined), it could afford proper health care for its citizens.

I really don't see how there is an argument here, the choice is between free health care that WILL keep you alive, versus a system that offers the same thing but could possibly be slightly better, but you have to mortgage your house is you get sick. I had a friend who lived in Canada until she was 15. She moved to the states, and within a couple years she found out she had brain cancer, but had no insurance. They had to take a loan to pay for it, and now her and her single mom both work two jobs each just to pay it back. Why should if you get sick and dont have a lot of money then have to be a slave for it? Its is an inhumane system.

Proculation Proculation:
Brenda Brenda:
ManifestDestiny ManifestDestiny:
refer to above post, $3600 per year per person for top qaulity health care, thats what I pay it worth every penny!!!!!

if you cant afford that you are not middle classor you just dont find the need for insurance which should be my choice also!!!

What is considered middle class? $50K gross a year?
Family of 4, 3600x4= 14400
Mortgage payments, 2000/mo= 24000

Thats already 38000... Dunno, but... WTH do you pay your healthcare from?

50K/year isn't middle class ! I would say more like 80-100K for a family of 4.
Gee, according to an unreliable source, the Government of the United States of America, http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/09poverty.shtml "The 2009 Poverty Guidelines for the 48 Contiguous States and the District of Columbia" for a family of 4 is $22 050 per year. What do you call the part of the population with incomes between $22 050 and the $80-100 000 a year ?

By the way , the cash would already have been spent on the mortgage payments alone. So much for housing, eh! :) And food!

Chagrin Chagrin:
This llama guy seems to know everything about US healthcare. No one I know has ever had to re-mortgage their houses to pay for medical bills. That's just fucking absurd.

You've lived a sheltered life. Bankruptcies due to medical costs are one of the State's health system's biggest jokes:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/06/05/ba ... index.html

Medical bills prompt more than 60 percent of U.S. bankruptcies
