Choban Choban: EyeBrock EyeBrock: No slandering but your 'Maple leaf' patch thing just plays into old stereotypes of Americans. No different than MD and his old stereotypes about Canadians really mate.
I know you meant no offence but put yourself in an Americans shoes when you post those comments.
It goes both ways, we can't accuse them of insensitivity when we are less than sensitive back. Good point EyeBrock, I see what you mean. Insensitivity in reaction to insenitivity doesn't reflect anything posative on our end. Still it's sad to see the tripe fed to Americans by their media even if it is on a 3 am talk show. I don't hate Americans, far from it, I've met a few, some good people some not so good people, 1 of my fondest memories is some time I spent in Maine, I was somewhat of a celebrity in Bangor, no one I met had ever met a Canadian before and I left there with a good impression and hope I left one behind me as well. Having said that, I think this show should be held accountable for it's stance here, maybe a posative episode about Canadian/American relations told from both sides of the border. Choban, I totally agree. Hopefully some good will come from this sad episode. Fox should cancel this guys show. He does not represent the yanks I've met and know.

I think we have been equally insensitive t eachother for years, even decades and usually were able to see the humour in eachothers gags so as to laugh it off.
What makes this situation unique is the incredible, and quite appreciated recognition, love, and devotion the citizens of this country have to it's military. Alot of the people feel we need to be protected from that which we can't protect ourselves from, most notably slander and civil hate. So this time around was different, because the military was the target of slander, which has never really happened at such a scale before (South Park made our military look equal to the americans). in addition to that, alot of people see this as us being involved in there war, so when the lack of recognition is displayed, it already adds insult to injury.
This isn't making a joke about some old stereotype, such as Americans wearing a maple leaf on their bags abroad. This guy stepped into a previously unknown lions den, and he got bit, hard. If any one of our comedians made fun of New York City Fire Department or Police Department officials in the days, weeks, and months following 9-11; hell even to this day, it would be the inverse situation.

Canadian_Mind Canadian_Mind: Eisensapper Eisensapper: Who do you know that has done more than 5 Afghanistan tours? Personally? None. I got those figures from when I was in the chicken coup to get my stitches looked at a week and a half ago. Witnessed the jacking of a pair of RCR types, one private and one corporal, when they were overheard grumbling about having to do a tour within a year. It was a second hand reference, and could have been overblown to exagerate the sgts. point. I believe(*d) it could be true, as my PPCLI Sgt. from basic, Sgt. Macdougall, consistantly talked about the frequency of rotations in the infantry, and he cited examples of guys who have gone over 3 or 4 times as of the start of 2008. Thats why I used it. * - Edit in. 2Cdo, if you call bullshit on the 7, I'll retract that. But what about the 5 and 6 references? Moe MacDougall? lol If so he's a Royal, not a dirty Pat (Sorry 2CDO, had to lol)

Maybe he's an ex-Royal who seen the light!

And if you want to be super anal retentive there bucket lips you could also say it is a Canadian helmet. Before we got the Germany kevlar knock-off we had the M1: That's the insert which looks real close to the toon helmet. sourceThe C79 scope does look right but the rest looks like a the aussie Bullpup at best.

Does anyone really expect the cartoonist to get it right? He probably wet himself just drawing a firearm.

Tricks Tricks: Does anyone really expect the cartoonist to get it right? He probably wet himself just drawing a firearm. I know a cartoonist who may at one time have been French Foreign Legion. He never would give me a straight answer. I suspect that was his point.
