Zipperfish Zipperfish:
Take your tightie rightie circle jerk to another thread please.

Back on topic...

A lot of parallels witht he Taliban. The Taliban would get a chuckle out of saying the most outrageous thing they could think of to say. These guys seem similar. Also, their tactics are similar--use of pickups and explosives in remote towns. You also have the weak, corrupt central government (which, in Afghanistan, ultimately fell to the Taliban) is also evident.

In Afghanistan, one of the few success stories was getting kids in general (and girls in particular) an education. The Taliban feared this above all. Enforced ignorance is an excellent means of control.

A good response would be the opening of several new schools in Nigeria.

wow Zipper a bit upset that AndyT took this thread off topic and got schooled about it now you want to blame us. That's fine but wait I was on topic and talked about these idiots and the links I posted (the second I think) talked about educated girls and woman being targeted. Also Dr. Caleb in one of the first pages mentioned Nigeria's education system.

It is true that one of the few highlights about Afghanistan is the re-installment of an education system for girls. One of the first things the Taliban did when they took over was bar girls and woman from schools. Post USSR invasion and Pre Taliban control Afghanistan girls and woman were going to school and gaining an education. Many of them were targeted during the Taliban control era and are once again being targeted. I'm glad to see that the woman and girls are speaking out against the attempt to repress them from getting an education. I truly hope that Nigeria continues to expand on their education system and that it an all inclusive one that does not discriminate/bar woman from gaining high degrees.

Maybe Oprah can spare a few million bucks since it's one of her causes.

Not a bad idea. The problem is--well, there's always problem--the corrupt government will help themselves to any funds and bugger off. You need to secure your invesntment right down to teh level of individual teachers.

Whan I was in Afghanistan, I brought a bunch of sports gear over for the local orphanage. But I couldn't get it to them because there were some issues that the local intermediary seemed reluctant to discuss. In fact what was happening was that the lady in charge of the orphanage would steal everything back from the orphans after making a big show of giving it to them. This became evident when a couple of the poor kids froze to death one cold winter night because she stole all the blankets adn there was no heat.

The appalling part for me was they were "still trying to get rid of her." Apparently killing small children through malicious neglect was not grounds for dismissal. It's nearly a a laugh but it's really a cry.

Anyways, the first opportunity for someone to steal, they will. We call it corruption. It's just the way of life over there.

I would not be surprised if she caught a stray bullet at some point.

The Africans are just less subtle or more open about their corruption than we are in the West.

The difference is that in Africa the corrupt government will use it's soldiers to steal on behalf of their politicians while in the West we use the courts, the legislatures, and soldiers to steal on behalf of politicians.

We just go through the process of making the act of thievery somewhat legal so the ruling classes can placate the masses with assurances that nothing bad is happening.

The end result is the same and our Western societies are steadily degrading to the state where the thievery is becoming just as brazen as it is in Africa.

andyt andyt:
Freakinoldguy Freakinoldguy:

The topic was Boko Haram and their kidnapping of 300 female children as slaves not Eastern European slave traders, Christian slaves from the old testament or lucrative crimes involving human trafficking.

Hence my asking if the two perverts on the forum were an aberration or was this endemic of the religion and if you noticed I didn't ask what other religions, cultures, colours or countries practiced this crap.

What religion is practicing this crap. Do you call it practicing when a Russian mobster enslaves women? Some Chinese factory owner enslaves his workers? No. But in this case you want to say it's a Muslim practice. That is the bullshit here.

I didn't say it was a MUSLIM practice and if you had taken the time to read the post instead of going off half cocked and trying to change the topic to Russian slavers you might have noticed that I said that one of the posters in my link actually pointed out that Islam was against it. So that's why I asked the question if it was endemic to that religion.

And for the record slavery is one of the most heinous crimes in the world and it's especially vile if it's used as a way to further your religious and political ambitions like Boko Harma does.

Slavery takes many forms.

In the US a court can order a man to provide child support to children who are not his and if he refuses to do so he will go to jail. He is not free to quit his job, he is not free to leave his state, he is not free to do anything other than work to support the children.

This is slavery.

We just prefer to think we have a good reason for this kind of thing and that helps us sleep at night.

The young woman the Taliban tried to murder became a symbol for the fight young women face just to survive and now so have these 200 young girls who's fate is tragically unknown.

So how does the West resolve this? Boots on the ground? We saw the tragic results of when the West tried to help Somalia in 93 but that was over 20 years ago and we can no longer sit by waiting for the UN decide to what to do because that sure worked out well for Rwanda, uggh no easy answers!

Kudos for what you did in Afghanistan! R=UP

Boko Haram formed amid Nigerian government corruption

The wide-scale kleptocracy of the Nigerian government, which is accused of pilfering billions of dollars of oil revenues and having spawned a massively corrupt civil service, may have played a role in giving birth to Boko Haram, the group behind the kidnappings of nearly 300 schoolgirls, experts say.
