Funny how that happens when fucked up members of a religious group do something stupid. Everyone comes out of the woodwork then to blame all for the actions of a few.

Please, this only happens to the poor oppressed christians.

So it is turning out that this guy is not a fundamentalist Christian, he simply posted his drivel on some Norwegian Christian websites and the media jumped to conclusions.

I thought he said that he wasn't a religious person.

That doesn't stop the media from maligning Christians with a form of guilt by association.

$1:
Christian fundamentalist Anders Behring Breivik killed 76 people in downtown Oslo and on the nearby island of Utøya on Friday, possibly with the help of accomplices.

As best as I can fathom from Breivik's writings he is an agnostic and he has been quoted as saying that his association with Christianity is political and not religious. I'm not quite sure how that works, but that admission makes him something other than a fundamentalist who is a devout believer.

Meh, and people were assuming it was muslims to begin with. People like to label and compartmentalize things. We've been dealing with religious based terrorism for so long now that it's just the first thing that comes to mind. If Breivik was even a little bit tanned instead of stereotypically norse we'd still be hearing about possible links to al-queda.

True. No one goes after other religious groups as a whole when their members do something profoundly awful.

Well said.

It seemed as soon as the media found it was a white guy, well then he must be some
sort of Christian fundie.

My guess, as things move along, it'll be shown to not be the case.

I hope that guy will spend a lot of time in prison. Bad that Norway prisons have one of the best conditions in the world.

Not sure how Norwegian prisons work, in terms of prison culture, but I hope he gets what's coming to him within 48 hours of him taking up residence there. Slow and painful.

The worst he'll get is 21 years for murder and maybe 30 for 'crimes against humanity'.

As I am hearing, he may well qualify for weekend passes in as little as three years if he behaves himself in prison.

What's ironic in that is that the conservatives the Norwegians and the media are busy excoriating right now are the same people who'd want a far more severe and proportionate sentence for this jerk. So when the liberals and leftists bitch about this guy effectively getting away with mass murder they need only look in the mirror to see who's responsible for all the leniency.

Yeah I heard sentences there are a bit light, however in many North American prisons if you're convicted of certain crimes, like child molesting, then you're in danger of being beaten up/killed by other prisoners, which is why I believe Paul Bernardo is kept separated from the rest of the prison population even until this day. However I don't know how hard core prisoners in Norway are when it comes to that sort of thing. I can only hope.

If the Norwegians feel OK with letting this guy have a pass after 3 years, or get out after 21, who am I to say different. My guess is they'll go for those continuing reviews every 5 years after the 21 years are up tho, and not give him a pass.
