You're doing what the Muslims do - bring up the past to justify the present. If the Muslims are really reaching out, let them invite the Christians to one of their current mosques. If you want to make peace, do you march to the other person's house and demand to be let in, get violent if you don't, or do you invite them to your place in a friendly way? Maybe they'll reciprocate.

No, that's what history does. Don't like it, I don't care. The rest of your slop I don't care. I'm a neutral party here and I don't give a crap about Christians or Muslims. Speaking about present, hows about those child molesting priests? Great example of Christianity, tolerance and otherwise. Don't get me started at that redneck piece of shit Florida Priest...or are you on his side on the concept of tolerance?

In any case, at least the Muslims at the time had religious tolerance (something history doesn't teach about them) and let Christians warship along side Muslims. Hey, its history, it happened, if its something you cant tolerate, too bad.

Oh, get over yourself. Are you a manly man, tolerating history?

The Muslims love to bring up the Crusades but ignore their own conquests, including Spain. Fine they were able to conquer then, no reason we need to let them push their way in now. As I said, if they had been peaceful about this idea, and especially if they had invited the Christians in first, I would have some sympathy for their quest. But to get violent shows that their true intention is just to push Islam. Christians pushing Christianity is bad enough, Muslims pushing Islam seems to often be worse.

It would be intersting to see what is in Mecca. There is a lot of history there.

Here's the inside of the kaaba, which is what all the fuss is all about in Mecca.

IMHO, it is a rather unremarkable structure with the unique feature of a meteorite built into it.

I thought it would be more impressive than that. To go half way around the world to see that BFD.

People go halfway around the world to see the Rosslyn Chapel as well, due to the success of "The Da Vinci Code," and it is far from being the most impressive construct architecturally (although references to the Paris Meridian in popular literature always gets us tourists all excitable). Others go to various other places for various reasons other than the actual look of the place. Something of cultural, historical, or religious importance is often a center of interest for tourism or simple interest.

Consider that people come to see curiosities such as Stonehenge in droves annually, or sites of great historical significance such as Juno beach or Vimy Ridge. When in England I found it quite easy to get lost in history, and did indeed travel to see the droves of it present in contrast to the modern-day settings, and while some things were amazing to see in person others were largely mostly decayed structures or something similar which had carried historical significance.

Other places, such as Libya, hold a special interest because of how insular the place was. When Detours (the one with the two young guys and their camerafriend) went to Libya, one of the things most mentioned was how unique of an experience it was to go there, in a place with so little international tourism due to a lack of allowing others inside their nation. The intrigue and mystery hence promotes interest in what otherwise would be an abandoned town, a tree in a desert, or other curios not often seen in the world as a whole, creating quite the allure for some visitors. Exclusivity is an awesome promotion method for something. ;)
