Tricks Tricks: Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: I never watched either of the Matrixes. Nor Lord of the Rings, Star Wars/Trek, etc... Hell, most of the movies I do watch have either Mike Myers or Jim Carrey. Why? What do you possibly gain from that? Lord of the Rings and Star Wars are actually masterpieces in the world of film. The imagery and literature that goes with it is astounding. By cutting yourself off from arguably the center of creativity in the world, you will lose out on so much. The books, the movies, the music and the creativity that comes out of the U.S. is amazing and can be life changing. To refer of anything associated with StarWars as 'literature' explains a lot about your point of view. Te USA has produced hundreds of film masterpieces, none of the mentioned included. Maybe you've applying standards of Ann Medina touting "The Dirty Dozen" as a historical film masterpiece on History Channel.

I think he was referring to the Tolkein books, which are acknowleged to be literary classics. Personally I was never a fan.

The stories behind the Star Wars Universe go back thousands of years. Lord of the Rings was a massive cinema achievement. And the books were awarded numerious awards. Obviously they aren't Billy Shakes, or Mary Shelley, but both film franchises were massive successes and to this day both have shaped movies of their respective genres.

For a culture that knows good from bad but rolls out 90% movies based on comic books and video games because they'll sell better. For a culture that invented the hamburger, and turned it into an icon of itself. A culture that rolls out gashogs while it kills itself and goes bankrupt doing so, and continues to tell themselves nothing else is good enough. For that matter one that pretty much 'invented' the automobile but know the majority really doesn't believe they can build them as good as the next guy. A culture chickenshit to define itself as a scoiety, because that would be socialist. etc. etc. etc.
Hate them? How can you? Pity them. Easy. The Scot mother-in-law defined them best. "Well meaning boors"

Nothing to do with the States, I just actually have zero interest in such movies. I'm just not much for Complete Fiction. Same sort of reason why I don't play video games - It's not a protest or anything. *centre, by the way. My genre is Comedy, And then it ends there. Horror, Action, Tear-Jerker, etc... Actually I can only stand a action movie if it's at least slightly realistic. At least with Twilight you are avoiding a horrid movie. Everyone involved with that garbage should be shot. Comedy? Watch any Paul Rudd or Kevin Smith?

Comedy? Watch any Paul Rudd or Kevin Smith? Agreed @ Twilight. If there was ever a book I wouldn't mind burnt... As for those guys... I'm not sure. Name some movies they are in - I don't go to movies for the actors. Well they both write movies, But Paul Rudd was in I love you man, Anchorman, 40 year old virgin, Role Models (which he wrote) Kevin Smith wrote Dogma, Clerks 1 and 2, Jay and Silent Bob strike back, zach and miri make a porno, Chasing Amy, Jersey Girl What do you go to the movies for?

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: Here's the thing - I think Canadians could survive without living by IV on Americana. By Americana I assume you mean American culture and entertainment. The US is the worlds leading enterntainment powerhouse . So what, its one thing to say you dont like it or find it cheesy. But to hate Americans because of it, a little koo-koo for co-co puffs for me. Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: America can survive without us, why can't we? Why shouldn't we be able too? I think the US would have a rought time without us, Eastern States specifically NY would have a hard time without our hydro, the border towns in the US would turn into ghost towns because of whatever trade imbargos your dreaming of. We supply tons of natural resources, Lumber, oil, hydro and at some point water. Our geographic location wont change, the world running on money wont change either, neither of wich was an American idea. We need each other, being good neighbors is good for both economies. Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: I'm sure many countries envy us, but think of it like this - We're freeloaders.
Canada needs to get a job. Sorry dont know what you mean by us being free-loaders.

What do you go to the movies for? Rudd and Smith are okay, but hit and miss. Neither has put together a film that really carries the audience from start to finish. There's too much that's either gratuitous or pretentious. For Smith, the wit and warmth that he shows in "An Evening With.." and "Sold Out.." hasn't translated into his films. Clerks was original and Clerks 2 was the closest he's come to a true gem of a film. Mall Rats and Dogma were complete turkeys. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was funny, but all over the place. Jersey Girl, Chasing Amy and Zach and Miri were attempts to be more mainstream that had their moments, but had their misses too. I love that +LIVE+ tune when Zach nails Miri though...great soundtrack inclusion.
