BartSimpson BartSimpson: rickc rickc: This guy could be in some really deep shit. The whole world is against him, and it turns out that there is an extradition treaty between the U.S. and Zimbabwe. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/wal ... 3f9d1ad47d The U.S. Fish and Wildlife have promised to assist in any manner requested. If this guy was smart, (and he does not look like the sharpest knife in the drawer so far) he would attempt to buy his way out of this ASAP if he can. Its probabally too late. I can't say as though I have any sympathy for him. Everyone loves to see some slimy rich SOB (who things they are above the law) get his comeuppance. I hope all the anti-death penalty agitators who want this guy sent to Zimbabwe know that if the man gets sent to see justice from Robert Mugabe he's going to either be put to death or he'll be murdered in prison. You can see that now that Zimbabwe has changed their tone, from saying he was a properly licensed sport hunter, to a “foreign poacher”.

Maybe, the President on Zimbabwe wants a white, pumpkin-shaped trophy head of a dentist to hang on the wall of his office. The key is to lure the dentist out of his safe reserve in Minnesota, ...

Since Zimbabwe and the US have a strong extradition treaty, his reserve isn't so safe. My guess is Zimbabwe would be much more interested in squeezing a few hundred million Z$ out of him.

I'm sure that the State Department will protect his sorry hide from Zimbabwean prison.
The Americans are exceptional.

BartSimpson BartSimpson: By the way, liberals, "Cecil" is named after Cecil Rhodes. Duh. Is he the American that the island is named after?

Thanos Thanos: Shooting Cecil meant the death of seven healthy lions because undoubtedly the beta-male in their pride has already killed Cecil's most recent batch of cubs. No. Fortunately this has not happened as the other male, which was not Cecil's brother, but an unrelated ally, is actually protecting Cecil's offspring. $1: The bad news is, though Jericho is alive and well, hunters did, in fact, kill another lion, according to the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force.
The university also cleared up the confusion about Jericho's relationship to the slain Cecil. Rather than being Cecil's brother as some news outlets had reported, Good Morning America reports the two were in a "coalition," which occurs when unrelated male lions join forces to defend territory.
After Cecil was shot dead earlier this month, conservation officials feared for the fate of the lion's cubs, but it seems Jericho has stepped up to protect them.

Good for Jericho, for proving once again that animals are better than people, or at least better than the kind of selfish rich poacher jackwagons who pay a small fortune just so they can use a gun to remove something magnificent and special from the world.

If Cecil was actually 14 years old, he's already well past the average age of death at 10, so he would have been on his way out anyway. The life of a dominant male lion is OK for a few years, but once you decline you're lucky to get away from the pride with your life from your challengers, and if you do get away you'll probably starve to death as it's hard to hunt by yourself, teeth wear down, etc.
This in no way excuses trophy hunting. One very sick aspect of this is that Cecil was used to humans, did not perceive them as a threat, nor was he aggressive towards them. So he would have been very trusting, sidling up the the truck where the meat was. (A truly wild lion would not go near meat that smelled of human, especially when he's not starving). Then they shoot him with an arrow and track him for 40 hours in pain to then shoot him with a rifle anyway. Big Bwana hunter, shoots a lion that trusts people and doesn't make a clean kill.
I don't usually like to rave about torturing the dickheads. But, since this guy was a dentist anyway, a little Marathon Man action might be in order.

UPDATE. Delta, Emirates, and South African Airlines have all now banned the remains of animals killed in trophy hunts from being transported on their aircraft. Survey says another one for the good guys. ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif)

Give it a little time and I imagine that Zimbabwe will be missing the dollars more than they'll miss the lions.

UPDATE. Air Canada, with the first right thing they've done in decades, has joined the ban too.
