Thanos Thanos:
I never even hated SJ until they got Heatley. He's a cancer everywhere he goes.
The team in Winnipeg will probably have to keep the Thrashers name, or come up with something altogether new. "Jets" as a copyrighted property went with the team to Phoenix and, unless they're willing to sell it to the Winnipeg franchise, all rights to "Jets" will remain with the Coyotes.
Canadian team rankings for next season:
1) Canucks
2) Habs
3) Flames
4) Sens
5) Leafs
5) "Thrashers"
6) Oilers
Seriously, I don't know where this delusion that the Oilers are some sort of super-squad comes from. These clowns could just as easily turn into the next version of the Florida Panthers (endless high-rated first-round picks that still result in nothing) as they will the next Penguins. They've still got a hell of along way to go before they even graduate to being mediocre instead of just plain shitty.
Well, here in Edmonton, Katz and Tambellini are expecting the Oilers to be a contender by 2014, about the same time as the new arena is expected to be finished. Oilers fans might think it will happen sooner, but lots of Oilers fans are delusional when it comes to the reality of the NHL and how good their team really is (although in fairness, most teams fans are like that).
The Oilers have a solid base (good young forwards and a pretty good young goalie) right now and if they can draft/trade for a couple of good d-men, then they'll have a chance at getting back into the playoffs. But, best case is it will be several more years before they have the potential to be playoff contenders again.
As far as your list goes, I could see the Leafs being higher on that list than the Flames, and without a couple of moves, the Sens too. Calgary has been competitive for a while now and their stars are beginning to age and falter. Hockey player tend to peak at about 27 or so, and most of the Flames' stars are past that. They'll either need to start trading them away for draft picks or fall to the bottom of the pile as they desperately try to hold onto the past.
