In my opinion, it's clear to me that his comments are being misrepresented. He said that “
Quebecers will decide if they want to be a country.”. Firstly, he said that he "respects" sovereignty, not that he advocates it. Secondly, he said that it's up to the will of the Quebec people...hasn't that always been true? e.g. the referendums? And moreover, what did people expect him to say? Was he supposed to say that he has contempt for all the Quebec seperatists? I would've probably said the same thing as him in his position to avoid upsetting anyone - i.e. I respect your position, but it's up to the people to decide if they want it. Many people in Quebec are still seperatists (whether we like it or not), so it would make sense to try to avoid insulting the people you're trying to represent...
/ And people seem to be complaining that the young MPs need to be better informed - well what about the VOTERS? They have a responsibility too.
This is another reason why the FPTP system is crap. Half the electorate doesn't even know how it works (or even cares enough to figure it out), so they just vote for the party they want - rather than the most adequate MP. If the Cons were truly concerned about these MPs, wouldn't they be advocating, at the very least, for a mixed-proportional system right now? Since in that case at least voters might have taken the time to educate themselves on which candidate they were choosing to represent them, as they'd still have a separate vote for the party of their choice. And maybe the parties would be more responsible with MP candidates with a party-list. Or perhaps the Cons could just advocate for some voter education campaigns?
But I know they wouldn't since I don't think they really care about representation. They have their majority now. Many are just trying to gain political points by targeting these guys, and that sickens me. /end rant
As a young voter myself, I'm far more informed on government than many of the adults I've encountered. My lack of "life experience" is made up for through my personal education (including talking to people who've had experience) and my desire to actually improve Canada for Canadians - regardless of which ideology we follow. I think many young people think the same way, which is what our government needs. We don't need people who'll just be stubborn and say NO just because it doesn't fall in line with their life-long way of thinking. We need people who just want to do what's best for us.
That's my view of things..even though it's almost off-topic at this point.

Excuse any grammatical errors since I'm tired.
