EyeBrock EyeBrock:
Populism is what get votes. Rightly or wrongly. Being unpopular loses votes, ask Obama. He got in by saying what was popular and did things that weren't popular, so he lost the House.
Seems like Obama is doing what a lot of Americans are doing these days, loosing the house! Is that his fault though?

Exactly.

Wasn't Chretien playing trombone ? I know Bill Clinton plays saxophone.

I love that clip. Never would have pictured Mr. Harper as sucha good singer.

I'm not too worried about Canada's image. A lot of people would have said that Chretien destoryed Canada's image when he bowed out of Iraq. I wish Harper would just stay out of the Middle East altogether. Israel and the Palestinians are attention whores as far as I'm concerned.

I do wonder about our image following the blocking of the potash takeover in Saskatchewan and putting th brakes on the Prosperity mine in BC though--that sends a conflicting message.

Curtman Curtman:
No it wasn't. It was a NATO decision. I don't remember ANYBODY suggesting that we shouldn't go to Afghanistan. We had a choice for Iraq, and the Liberals made the right one.

Yes, pass on Iraq and go to Afghanistan with our UNDERfunded military by yours truly the Liberals which you conveniently forgot to mention. Canada had not the ability to use our forces in that way in Afghanistan and that was a LIBERAL decision. If it was a NATO decision, we're obligated to provide aid in the manner we are capable of. That doesn't mean providing our troops with shoddy equipment (oh, remember the greens our troops had while everybody else had desert camo? No, can't remember that?) If you don't remember anybody opposing Afghanistan at all, you have a pretty selective memory. Piss poor 'sour grapes' defense there chum.

$1:
Point one and three are same. Thats the "sour grapes" defense.

Well, good thing you provided some great incite there. That's the "I have nothing" response.

Great decision on Iraq but Afghanistan is ok with you because of NATO? Hmmmmm

That's right. I don't think it would be wise to remove ourself from NATO.

Incite? I think you mean insight.

"We don't wanna be in the U.N. anyway". It's not a good policy, and no I don't really care to respond to that.

Nothing whatsoever to do with what I said but neither do I. Point? Wait, nevermind. I like your cut and paste pick and choose posts.

Indeed. Ourself? I think you mean ourselves.

Translation. You have nothing, you're inept. Thanks for playing.

Yeah. NATO is why we went to Afghanistan. Neither NATO or the U.N. went to Iraq. The U.S. did that with the "coalition of the willing" I think they called it.

Yes it did have to do with what you said. If a member of NATO is attacked, we are obligated to be a part of the response. Our choice was to go, or leave NATO. We went.

bootlegga bootlegga:
BTW, Harper, as head of the Opposition also supported the Iraq invasion and even supported sending Canadian troops to fight with the coalition in 2003 (Chretien sent the troops to Kandahar instead), so neither one can really claim a moral high ground on that issue.

Chretein sent troops to Kandahar in 2002 and withdrew us in July of '02. He sent troops in 03-04 to Kabul to avoid having to commit one way or another to Iraq. Other than that, Harper did support the idea of sending troops to Iraq.

We've got our election here today and the question of Obama being replaced by Sarah Palin is a topic of conversation.

Which makes me wonder if it would happen again that Canada would go Liberal just in time for the US to go conservative? I don't why it is, but it seems we're political opposites anymore no matter which way either one goes. We really need to do a better job of coordinating our political pendulums.

That would be excellent situation if we could. It did happen(I think) Brian Mulroney and Ronald Reagan? Those two were quite close and I would like to see US and Canadian relations.

The Conservatives have been very decent.

In fact, they could have done more. Although, the media has always been there to criticize the right. They and their biased reporting to the populace.

You never read what I wrote, we never had that sort of choice, and NATO doesn't work on 'do what we say or leave' basis. Move on, you're done.

It was Mulroney and Bush Sr. We had a joke up here at the time. What's 9 inches long and hangs between Bush's legs? Brian Mulroney's tie
