EyeBrock EyeBrock:
I agree with you on a ban. How can a free an democratic society outlaw clothing?

That's what I've been trying to say all along.

If we're gonna ban anything lets ban fast food restaurants. There are too many fat people out there.

France has an anti-clerical bias coming out of the French Revolution and to this day outward displays of religious ornaments is deeply frowned crosses, star of Davids, Crescent and the Burka. A burka from what I am told is a cultural thing and is not required in Islam.

The reason I don't like it is I am used to seeing the face of the person I am dealing with. A would not be very comfortable with a dental assistant wearing a hood for example.

There is also a security concern. When I take the train I would be weary of anybody wearing a hood.

Correct

No there isn't, not in the west anyways. Like I said earlier not exactly the best of diguises in the westerner world to carry out any sort of attack or crime, even petty crime like a pick pocketing. Not the most easiest get up to runaway in and can be spotted a mile away in crowd of a million people.

The proper reason is which you yourself have explained very rightly

and that's perfectly alright and to be honest, and I have seen a million times more women in it than any of you. I would be too ! But only if wearing a face veil. The regular burqa or hijab doesn't phase me at all. :D

But unfortunately people let their personal distaste, start to dictate.

So you are speaking out from a society that is still basically fuedal, where women have less rights than men. Where gays are persecuted and there is no freedom of the press.

Right?

I read a great article about this a while ago...it's on a website called State of Affairs, and while the writer is a bit...polarizing...but I think the message is sound. Check it out. http://state-of-affairs.com/2009/06/24/bundle-up-bitch-or-why-the-burqa-is-compensation-for-a-small-dick/.

I don't think that guy has much clue about France. Not that he doesn't procalim himself to be an expert on the subject.

He says...

$1:
Okay, now I’m usually a pretty big proponent of freedom

Suuuuuurrrrre You know what I find? People who start off sentences with "Usually a big propnent of freedom..."? Not usually big proponents of freedom.

The writer is typical FOX News jockey who has a memory of about four months.

Right?

Partially right

Feudal : No

Less rights for women : No

Homos : Not actively persecuted, that is a lynch mob does not go out looking for them.

Press : Kinda

Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Norse/Normans....all a bunch of Teutonic farmers and traders with too much spare time and ambition. Peaceful agrarian societies........ my left nut.
