If certain elements get their way, we'll end up with police similar to the ones on Demolition Man.

Bodah Bodah: I think its kind of impossible to try and regulate behavior when it comes to human emotions under high periods of emotional stress and anxiety.
So in the pressence of a cop if he had to confront a knife wielding dude who's as high as a kite and If he yelled at him to "LAY THE FUCK DOWN!!!"
The last thing I'd be doing is filing a complaint agaisnt him for his bad language. Maybe cursing at times might help in diffusing a situation, sometimes it may not. I agree with the idea of the ban, they ARE professionals. They shouldn't be swearing over the radio or in the office or when talking to civilians. It should be understandable if they swear in more stressful situations.

This policy is CLEARLY not got anything to do with what cops say during takedowns and the like. This policy has to do with how cops conduct themselves when dealing with one another and the law-abiding public.

Cops can say "Get down" instead of "Get the fuck down". The "f-bomb" isn't needed for emphasis. So which is it, Lemmy?

Gunnair Gunnair:  So which is it, Lemmy? It's both, isn't it? The cops shouldn't need to swear. They should do their best to remember that when they get aggitated and aggressive in high-stress situations, they'll escalate things and make the folks they're dealing with get more aggitated. Still, if an f-bomb gets dropped in those stressful situations, I don't think we need to drag them into a disciplinary hearing for it. On the other hand, if they're walking around the police station swearing, or doing it in public or on the radio, they should be written up for it. My position all along has never been to hang a cop that swears in certain circumstances. I would encourage cops to take a calm, professional approach to law enforcement over dashing in there like Wyatt Earpp and making tense situations moreso. Nice troll though.

Basically, you've just regurgitated everything that the people you disagreed with, were saying.

novachick novachick: I call it a dodge not a devils advocate position Call it what you want. You wanted me to come to your position, didn't you? If I'm doing that and conceding a measure of my position, you should be happy with the effecitiveness of your side's debate, not rolling your eyes at me, no? If you didn't want to sway my position to yours, why did you enter into debate with me in the first place? Either you were arguing with me to get me to re-think my position or you were arguing with me out of a desire for conflict. Which is it?

After all the NVCI has been done and that hasnt worked and a client or, in the Cops cases perp, is still escalating it needs to be stepped up a notch. For instance I had to take down a psychotic client, on Tuesday, that wasnt responding to NVCI and was escalating, he lunged and I took him down...My exact words...'YOU WILL STAY THE FUCK DOWN!!!'....
Anyone wants to write me up for it, go ahead...Ill introduce you to my union rep and they will take care of it...at the end of the day I go home and chill out from a high stress job.
Anyone thats wants to tell Police or anyone in a high stress environment what to say should get out from behind their desks and step on the front line for a day. All know when there is a time and place for profanity and will get spoken to if it isnt used in context, but when faced with a high stress situation all are on their own and use the best judgement at the time. Believe me all in any of these type of fields, review their words and actions after the fact to see if anything can be done differently.
