Toronto Liberal MP Adam Vaughan promoted an idea — ranked second out of 19 proposals put forward by the Ontario Liberal caucus — that would see your home profits taxed at 50% if you sold after just one year of ownership.
Depending on how the rates worked after 1 year, I have little problem with this as it pertains mostly to house flippers who do it purely for expectation of profit. Those flippers artificially increase housing prices. They also take away handyman project houses that allow people to buy into home ownership cheaply if they have the where-with-all to the fix the house up.
