And Rural Canada is withering.
Says who?
Anecdotally, I spent my spring & summer in Northern Ontario and spent my summer this year in rural Newfoundland. I didn't see any 'withering'.

Your focusing only on dairy, dude there is more to this then ONE industry, it’s like when they killed all the wolves in Yellowstone, the ecosystem nearly collapsed. It was only saved when they reintroduced wolves in the 90’s.everything supports everything, so you start fucking with dairy you don’t understand you now are now fucking with everyone from the feed lot operator to the convenience store owners to the tractor and combine dealers to the bar keeps in the little bars that are in these villages.
I do understand! Let me try to explain.
You keep repeating that the dairy industry is far more than just the farmers to which I
completely agree.
It's the guys that sell and maintain the equipment, the guy who sells the animals, the local stores and all of these people that help maintain these communities and farms are effected by local farmers.
Despite the decimation of our dairy industry, these communities are still standing. The people, the farmers and the businesses have adapted to the new way of life and the changes in the industry.
llama66 llama66:
You talk about dairy farms shrinking over the last years, that’s mainly from many farmers being forced to sell their farms, because we’re killing the industry.
Totally false.
Canada has gone to extreme lengths to protect the dairy industry. The market/customer has dictated the decline of the dairy industry. We're not 'killing' anything. We're opting to purchase different products to consume.

But you don’t give a shit and that’s fine. But the biggest reason you should not like this because of national security, think... are you fine with a foreign power controlling our food supply? Piss that foreign power off and they can cut the food supply and starve us until they get what they want. Before you fire off and say it’s only 3.75%, your right, for now, but there is nothing stopping that foreign power from demanding more. This is how appeasement works, once we start it’s neigh impossible to stop.
Last year, the US sent 670+ million worth of dairy into Canada.
On top of us allowing more American access to our dairy market, they opened the doors to allow for more of our dairy, peanuts and sugar to move South of the border.
70% of what we eat in Canada is imported foods. We're already at the mercy of foreign powers when it comes to our food supply.
