What in the actual fuck is a prog.

It's short for a "progressive".
. . .
Or something like that

I just think it's morphed into anything that the poster doesn't like.
Next thing you know I'd be one of those types gloating about catching somebody using "who's" when they meant "whose", and people would start calling me a prog. So I don't do it.

Always nice to have the Progressive contigent drop in to explain why they're not interested in what's clearly mentioned in the title. Keep in touch.
Thanos a progressive

If anything he falls well into the realm of small c conservative or a common sense reactionary. Moving things back to a time when greed wasn`t good, we had a more ordered and civil society that respected the law and the middle class actually meant something ......at least I hope so.
You know I'd like to let that one go, because when I explain what I mean by "Progressive" it's going to turn into a big, flaming, hair pulling contest. (
Edit`: In fact it looks like it already has, so no problem.) Also it's off topic. But you're a reasonable guy, so I'm going to divert to explain this once just to you so we're speaking the same language from here on, then try to ignore the flames from others that are sure to follow.
OK first of all I don't like the word Progressive. If you look up the definition of that the first thing you will notice is there aren't any actual "progressives". They don't exist. If they do, point me to them.
What there are, are what I, and others call Progs, but if you refer to them by that more correct term they flip upside down with buggy eyes, start pulling out their hair and screaming. Well...more or less, kind of like that.
So what's a Prog? A prog is a smug, sarcastic, mocker. (Yes, I can give as good as I get with that. I can do Allinsky tactics too. No apologies). A prog is narcissistic and as such no amount of facts can convince him he's wrong. No amount of time spent knocked on his ass is going to convince him he actually has been. He's the black knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
But the prog does not actually believe in anything other than what might give him a quick fix of belief in personal power.
A prog is Oikophobic. He cannot not be any kind of conservative. He is not small c anything. In general he is against the values, traditions, and standards that got him here, and allows him the freedom to be the tiny impotent little thing he actually is. But this can be confused by the fact he is in favor of any temporary fix that gives him the mistaken idea he is in control, or winning. The latter there can override the former, and that may have given you the mistaken idea a prog can be some kind of Conservative. But no, somebody who puts people like Allan Grayson, or Andrew Sullivan up on a pedestal for admiration is not a conservative.
It's easy to make that kind of mistake with progs though - that they are conservatives or liberals. At times they will encourage such impressions, but they are neither, although they do seem to orient more left than right in general. However that's only because it's usually easier for them there for personal reasons. You'll find them all over the political spectrum. I always get a kick out of the progs that call themselves Libertarians.
Here's the most interesting thing about Progs though. They only have power until you recognize what they really are.
Watch what happens now though, and you'll see why it's generally easier to just call them progressives.
