Well, obviously that doesn't mean Quebecers.

After all, they were about 5% of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1914-1918 and not much better in WW2.
You guys can stay at home and let the Anglos bleed for Canada. Just like you always have.

I beleive they had their reasons. They did not see an allegiance to either France nor GB, they simply felt it wasn't their war(s).

Wow there fella.. my father and grandfathers all from Quebec fought in both wars. My family has a strong military history. My nephew died in Afghanistan. There were issues for Quebecers during the conscription crises. But not all Quebecers felt anti Britain.. The francophones represent a lot of the military.. My reference was not meant to be derogatory toward the military. I have my father's medals and I am proud of them. It was a reference to harper.. do you think he or his kids would ever be in the forces? no...and thats what the comment was about.. You might want to check the numbers before you make such statements.

I'm sure they did. But I think people taking in Quebec's isolationist view of the world should recognise that Canadians from the other provinces fought for the freedoms we have. Most of Quebec stayed at home.

Your family is in a minority in Quebec mate, but well done.
Check the regimental rolls for both wars. In 1914 Quebec had 38% of the population of Canada but sent 7 regiments to France out of over 200 raised in the rest Canada. World War 2 wasn't too much better. Most Quebec regiments were made up of the now nearly extinct Anglos from Montreal.

"Young Canadians should be prepared to follow in the footsteps of their forebears and fight for freedom and democratic values, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said today".

The only people stepping on my freedoms and democratic values are the doucebags that are mismanaging this country down the shitter. If Harper really wants young Canadians to gun-up and go fight for democracy, the shooting needs to begin in Ottawa.

Lemmy, different vocations.
And joining the military for most of us was/is a vocation.
It's not politics, its wanting to serve. A small proportion of us do actually want to serve.
Ich Dien.
