herbie herbie:
Still waiting to hear what the average Hydro bill in Ontario is.
Asking because I just got mine here in BC for June/July it was $123.
So if it's $200 a month it's something to whine about. If it's $70 and the highest in Canada, it ain't.
I've got friends who just won't effing stop thinking they're "saving money" buying cheap incandescent bulbs at the Dollar store. Went from 120W in the bedroom to 26W with CFLs and just scored a modern new LED fixture from Costco for $39. The LED is only 14W and built in - no replaceable bulbs! And it's so bright I can read in there for the first time. Plus no flicker.
Went back and bought 5 more fixtures! And scored a $49 chandelier for the dining room. Now the whole front of the house uses less power than the bulb in the fridge.
300W -> 36W
At the end of 2015, the average hydro bill was $143/mo in Toronto and $148/mo in Ottawa.
Also keep in mind that in Ontario for every $100 worth of hydro bill you receive ONLY $23 is for actual hydro use. The rest is delivery, connection fee, taxes and the Wynned Bag's "Global Adjustment Fee".
That means that in Toronto, they only used $33 worth of electricity/mo but were charged $143 for it. And the $148/mo in Ottawa translates to $34 worth of actual hydro usage.
