So who's running Canada, the UN or the Federal Gov't? I'd say if these projects come to a grinding halt it'll be because of this unenforceable UN edict and will finally reveal who our real gov't is.

But, it's quite apparent the assholes at the UN don't understand that countries have sovereignty rights that will cause them to become more than a little upset when an un-elected body of world gov't loving dipshits starts dictating what they can and can't do in their own country.

What authority does the UN have to enforce anything they proclaim? None. Crisis averted. We now return you to our regularly scheduled program.

See: Oka Crisis. ;)

It just amuses me that people will on one day say "We should get out of the UN, it's useless" and the next day say "Look what the UN is making us do!"

Pick one!

Well, Trudeau desperately wants that (largely ceremonial) seat on the Security Council so badly...

They have no power unless of course, your duly elected leaders opt to give it to them. So like I said, we'll wait and see because, if Canada suddenly changes their stance on these capital projects and decides to sign off on this papal like edict like they did with the UN's Global Compact on migration of Refugees we'll know who's issuing the marching orders.

Given his ties to Hauwei it'd might be more doable if he ran for the Liberal Leadership.

"Marching Orders" ROTFL

The UN is there to protect human rights. The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that indigenous people have the right to be consulted before anything is done on their lands.

The UN is reminding the Government of Canada of that responsibility. Nothing more.

The Government of Canada does not even have to listen to the UN, though the Supreme Court is another matter altogether because it's our highest court.

That said, it gets murky with the LNG pipeline because the elected band council and chief gave their approval for the pipeline while the unelected hereditary chiefs are saying no.
