Maybe it's just my ignorance but I thought having a miscarriage was a painful and potentially dangerous experience. How can someone be calmly typing while having a miscarriage? Shouldn't she be more concerned with getting to a doctor the getting to a keyboard?

It totally depends on how far along you are. (Late) August till now is about 9 weeks. Very normal to miscarriage, not a biggie either. It's not like she hadn't experienced it before...
I'm pretty sure she went to the bathroom, found herself losing blood and knew she was miscarrying. Kinda like a heavy period...

I do. It's the way twitter works that can develop something into a viral event. The media covers it because it looks like an event of thousands of people talking about an issue at the same point in time is the same criteria used for covering any news story with or without twitter. Add to the fact it's about a hot-button issue and you have a story of the day.

Not like it will change a whole lot, the laws on abortion will not change by a single tweet.

No doubt. Given the utterly inane things people say on Twitter (I'm taking a dump/I had chicken wings for dinner/I hate my boss/etc) who cares?

I used Facebook/Twitter to announce the birth of my daughter. It was a fast and easy way to tell all my friends around the world the news. What's the difference?

I don't know. In the post she was using the present tense, and I've seen people send messages during meetings all the time on a crackberry or similar device. Maybe she's just terrible at grammar?
