About 12 years ago my ex was invited to apply for a job at a Historic park in the lower mainland. She was already working for Parks Canada. Flew down there and they were stunned she was white, why she lived up here and being feds they were too stupid to distinguish a multi-syllable last name of Italian origin from an Indian one.
Suddenly the job required 100% french and she was out plane fare, expenses and a week's wages for the time she took off to go to the interview.

Ridiculous.

The person best qualified for a position should be hired regardless of race. To refuse a resume from a qualified person because they are not aboriginal or of a "visible minority" is just as discriminating as an employer who will only hire somone white.

What qualifies as a "visible minority" nowadays anyway?

Unfortunately to see this go we have to amend the charter of rights. Section 15.2 more of less says its ok to treat whites differently than other "disadvantaged" races in the spirit of affirmative action.

I like what the section was trying to do in essence but like a lot of the charter it was written to vague and just has caused more problems in the long run. She has no grounds to sue or appeal the job ads. Which is a shame. As mentioned here already there are a lot of "less than the best choices" working for the feds because of both language and race quota type programs.

Well don't worry, when we become the minority we'll be able to use the Charter in the same way.

Unless of course the new majority, who will be electing our MPs along with foreign countries, see section 15-2 dropped off the books.

Course they will - Asians don't really go for all that civil rights stuff anyway. Almost worth it for the yowling from the natives when their special status gets revoked.

More likely the new majority will amend the Charter to allow active discrimination against whites.

Racial equality isn't really something that's politically correct anyway. Equal consideration of interest is what is truly politically correct.

Yep, you're only for negative discrimination.
