DrCaleb DrCaleb:
Anyone else catch parts of the eclipse? It was pretty spectacular! Nearly as cool as Mars' closesst approach in 60,000 years, about 10 years ago.
Yep! Went out at about 11:40 and 12:15 to look with my daughter (wasn't going to wait up until 12:41 for totality.

). She's always been interested in the moon, and has named the phases after foods. The crescent moon is a banana Moon, the quarter Moon is a perogy Moon and the full Moon is a meat Moon (from the circles of garlic sausage we eat with perogies - we eat a lot of perogies). So I figured she'd like to see the eclipse, and you never know if the next one's going to be completely clouded in. I showed her before what would happen using a flashlight for the Sun, our globe for the Earth and a christmas ornament for the Moon.

It was fun.
