Was it bucking the downward trend? Regina, Saskatoon and Edmonton seem to be following closely too.

Tough town. I grew up in the North End there. Saw some stuff there I sure wish I could unsee.

A couple of years ago, Abbottsford was the murder capital of Canada. This year they haven't had a murder yet. The cops cracked down on gangs, the gangs probably shot their wad fighting each other, and things are quiet again. So they're at the head of the downward trend. So it goes.

We have the prohibitionists to thank. They disabled the hells angels organization here temporarily, but nothing has been done to remove the black market. So we get the other vermin fighting for their chunk of it. Next we get to look forward to the hells angels fighting to get it back once they reorganize. Prohibition kills.

Marijuana and prostitution would be enough to do a very significant reduction in their revenue.

you really haven't thought that through. Even in places where prostitution is 'legal' there are still meat markets controlled by the gangs, whether it's underage prostitutes or unlicensed junky whores looking to turn tricks for their next fix. They'll provide services legal brothels won't. They lose money from pot, they invest more into other markets, be it harder drugs, protection rackets, arms dealing, construction ...any number of areas. they aren't just about ass and grass.

Your band aid solutions are ridiculous. This may whittle some smaller players out, but those that have been around for awhile will become harder and more protective of their remaining or new 'ventures'. They are businessmen as well as criminals, who will create opportunities, and who obviously have a little more forethought than you've exhibited.

Or, you could thank those people who willfully support organized crime so that they can indulge in some selfish, narcissistic desire irrespective of the harm it does since they can't think beyond their own petty wants.

Just sayin'...

I doubt it. All they'll do is move to another form of illegal activity, since they aren't gonna ever quit being criminals.

Face reality, you want pot legalized for your own personal reasons which is fine, just don't link it with the eradication of gangs cause that isn't going to happen, especially with the extremely large market south of the 49th parallel.

These people are in gangs for a myriad of reasons and marijuana sales profit is just one of them. So to eradicate gangs will take alot more than just legalizing your favorite herb.

Until it is legal, he's just funding organized crime and doing so willingly.

I personally couldn't give a shit if it's legal or not. What I'm sick of hearing is that by legalizing it, every social ill in Canada will be eradicated and we'll all get to live in a land of plenty with unicorns and rainbows and and kiss my shiney metal ass.

What a crock of shit. Legalizing it won't change the fact that it'll still be a drug with negative ramifications just like alcohol, despite what the potheads claim.
