I think it's more like 4-5 billions, but mercifully, all life on earth will have probably disappeared long before that.

IIRC scientists aren't entirely sure. The earth's orbit is just at the edge of where the sun will expand to. So the earth could survive but all life would be killed. Good news is we have a billion years before the suns output rises enough to kill us. Plenty of time to colonize space.

In about 4B years, the moon will have moved far enough away from earth that the gravitational pull won't maintain the Earth's rotation. This will cause the planet to wobble and destroy all life on-board. The sun will gobble up the planet in 5-8B years, but no one will be around to see the show.
