People of all races can be racist, however just because another person is racist, it should not be used as an excuse to justify small mindedness in yourself.

Remember that there are rules against setting up colour exclusive bodies and organizations in the USA, Canada and Britain (contrary to popular racist diatribe). Black colleges, and the NAACP, 2 very prominent black enclaves have many white members and participants.

Racism will always rear its ugly head from those who miss the old status quo of government enforced separation (or even social separation for that matter as it occurs in Latin America and India).

As with the fate of the BNP in the UK; a court order ruled that it is illegal to ban people from joining based on ethnicity. It will be only a matter of time before black, and indian British nationalist join.

As it was only a matter of time before black colleges saw white recruits and traditionally white colleges black ones after segregation laws were struck down.

It is only natural to see more non-blacks participate and even win events in traditionally black colleges, inevitably there will be backlash. As there was backlash when the first blacks stepped into white only organizations (corporations, ivy league schools, etc).

$1:
"Black or white, this young lady is not qualified to be the face of Hampton University as she is not in tune with the wants, needs, and desires of the student body at large," a person who signed themselves as a graduate of the university commented on the website of Essence, a magazine for black women.

"Although some are outraged by her race, I think most are upset because this young lady has no ties to the student body. She is a transfer student who attends an HU satellite campus. She has never lived in a dorm, eaten in the cafe, or spent time in the Student Center."

So why was she chosen to be the face of the Uni?
$1:
Churchill has issued a statement on the university's website, regretting having written to Obama and apologizing for drawing negative attention to Hampton University, which she hailed as being a long-time pioneer of diversity.

I think it's your job to market the Uni in a positive way, not a negative. I think the people who are against your win might have a point...

Did you create another account so that there would be someone who agrees with you? You're both wrong.

You sure about that!
The Congressional Black Caucus is an organization representing the African American members of the United States Congress. Membership is exclusive to African AmericansOver the years, the question has arisen, "Does the Caucus allow only black members?" Pete Stark, D-Ca., who is white, tried and failed to join in 1975. In January 2007, it was reported that white members of Congress were not welcome to join the CBC.[5] Freshman Representative Steve Cohen, D-Tn., who is white, pledged to apply for membership during his election campaign to represent his constituents, who were 60% black. It was reported that although the bylaws of the caucus do not make race a prerequisite for membership, former and current members of the Caucus agreed that the group should remain "exclusively black." Rep. William Lacy Clay, Jr., D-Mo., the son of Rep. William Lacy Clay Sr., D-Mo., a co-founder of the caucus, is quoted as saying, "Mr. Cohen asked for admission, and he got his answer. He's white and the Caucus is black. It's time to move on. We have racial policies to pursue and we are pursuing them, as Mr. Cohen has learned. It's an unwritten rule. It's understood." In response to the decision, Rep. Cohen stated, "It's their caucus and they do things their way. You don't force your way in."

Clay issued an official statement from his office:

"Quite simply, Rep. Cohen will have to accept what the rest of the country will have to accept - there has been an unofficial Congressional White Caucus for over 200 years, and now it's our turn to say who can join 'the club.' He does not, and cannot, meet the membership criteria, unless he can change his skin color. Primarily, we are concerned with the needs and concerns of the black population, and we will not allow white America to infringe on those objectives."
