$1:
"ISIS was set up by the Baathists, or former Baathists, because they want to scare the West and they want the West to come talk to them because they (the Baathists) can get rid of them," Ribal al-Assad said.

Maryam Namazie, a human rights activist, says the Western media should discuss and try to combat ISIS as a fascist movement instead of an Islamic one.

"It's sort of portrayed as what people want in the Middle East, North Africa or South Asia and its important to show how this movement actually makes inroads by limiting people's rights and by slaughtering people, Namazie said in an interview.

"It's no longer about the belief, it's about power."

Interesting.

Why lie?

Nazism was a fascist movement based on race and ISIS is a fascist movement based on religion.

No sense lying to ourselves.

What the Nazi era can teach us about de-radicalizing extremist? The application of extreme force with prejudice. Ya know, cuz we've seen how well trying reason with mentally unstable whackjobs has worked in the past.

What the Nazi era can teach us about deradicalizing extremists

1. First, bomb them into the stone age.

2. Then require their unconditional surrender and kill every last one of the bastards who won't agree to that.

3. Execute their leaders to make sure the movement doesn't arise again.

4. Ban their propaganda materials and imprison anyone who tries to proselytize from them.

5. But first find the balls and the resolve to do all of the above.

Which actually changes nothing about the quote in question.

It's just more bullshit written by a Muslim apologist, and should be discarded out of hand.

Want to get back on topic or do you want to continue to debate semantics and general douchbaggery?

How is it apologist? "Call a spade a spade, and let's move on" is what's she's saying. ISIS has about as much to do with Islam as the Westboro Baptist have to do with Christianity.

OTI is right. ISIS is a fascist movement based on religion. Or just call them a cult. SO Dr Caleb is right too (can't see what the argument was about) that ISIS no more or less represents Islam than Westboro represents Christianity. Nor does Aryan Nations represent the vast majority of white Christians.

What's getting lost is the purpose of the op to show how WWII techniques can be used to deradicalize jihadis. It's why we shouldn't automatically ban the return of jihadis to Canada (can't anyway if they are citizens) nor should be just put all of them in jail and throw away the key. Some of them could be very useful tools to prevent the radicalization of others. CSIS has made the same point.

I know a German man who was taken prisoner and put thru that de-nazification process by the Brits. Became a productive citizen, worked for the BBC for a time. The only downside is that as a pow he was fed so much lamb he can't look at the stuff anymore.
