These days, anyone who tries to speak the truth... is immediately silenced.

People are entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts.

Until we know why she was let go, we won't be able to be sure which of these conditions was met. Or perhaps, it was just budget cuts. That's the beauty of conspiracies; they don't require proof, and proof is considered a cover up. ;)

The fact is though they don't know whether the Polar Bear population is trending up or down. So technically is it her own fact?

I have no idea. I'm not a researcher.

I have seen both trends though, some parts of the Arctic (eg: Churchill) they are trending up, but places like Alaska and Siberia they are trending down. In places like Quebec, they are co-mingling with Grizzlies, so there are some stresses on the population there.

My point, to be fired for saying a scientifically ambiguous fact is weak.

At this stage I accept that pretty much every animal species on the planet is in danger. Not just from climate change but from a host of other different human-based stupidities and acts of malice that have them all at the tipping point towards extinction. The current fuckwit occupying the White House taking as many animals off the endangered list as he can in order to make reckless development by his grifter friends that much easier is merely the latest catastrophe for animal life on this planet.

His Razor depends on having all the facts. The University isn't saying why they let her go. Perhaps she violated their policy of returning the coffee carafe with less than 1 cup in it, and didn't make a new pot. Who knows?

R=UP

There have been so many policy changes that affect wildlife, it's hard to keep track. And it's silly to speculate on the survival of a species that each year has less and less habitat to thrive on. They will have to continue to cross with Grizzlies and brown bears, and then they will effectively be a new species anyhow.

I didn't think we had grizzlies here and a cursory Internet search gave me nothing. :?

My bad. Polar, Black, and Grizzly bears get together in Churchill. Just across the pond.

Her facts and credentials are as relevant and correct if not more so than this gentleman who is apparently a dissenting view.

Misplaced eco-anxiety that kids have about polar bears starts with activist biologists like Steven Amstrup, spokesperson for an organization devoted to raising climate change alarm – and media outlets like The Guardian who help them spread fears unsupported by scientific evidence.

As far as her being fired for dissenting views, she seems to think that was the reason especially since UVic had lauded those same findings before suddenly letting her go.

As you may have heard, this summer I lost my status as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Anthropology Department at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada (UVic), a position I had held for 15 years. This action followed my expulsion from the roster of the university’s volunteer Speakers Bureau in May 2017. However, until April 2017 the university and the Anthropology department proudly promoted my work, including my critical polar bear commentary, which suggests someone with influence (and perhaps political clout) intervened to silence my scientific criticism.

But, if you think the University will ever come out and give an honest reason why they let her go I seriously doubt it. Because, it's much easier to disparage and disgrace a persons work by allowing the world to believe that it's all a conspiracy theory by a disgruntled former employee than to give the public the real facts.

I'm surprised Beave hasn't turned up with his personal attack evidence from Sourcewatch or Desmog yet, because that's what they do.

And speaking of evidence, Doc is finally right about something. The university won't tell you why they banished this scientist who is well known in the skeptic community.

And isn't that convenient.

You often see that sort of behaviour when this sort of thing comes up. The hiding of relevant information. In fact you see it in general from the powers that be in the climate debate. You see it all the time and I would ask what are they trying to hide?

This isn't the first time she's been attacked. It's been a common occurrence.

Which reminds me, as to any muck sourcewatch or desmog can rake up, simply go to her website and read a bit about Polar Bears. You'll find she's quite reasonable and not fond of the 'out the butt' technique used by the 'friends of Greta.'

Also, she isn't the first scientist with a specific interest in polar bears who's been "canceled" from reservation, so to speak. There was another guy. I'm not going to look it up unless I have to because that kind of story gets disappeared off the internet, or at least they try. It will be a pain to find and I'll have to find it someplace like Watts which will get the Greta crowd peeved. Or you can take my word for it she's not the first polar bear scientist to get banned from the controlled centers of study for noticing inconvenient facts like Polar Bears aren't actually disappearing.
