As bad as this sounds, I'll take warnings over book bannings anyday. At least with this system, students can choose to read/not read a literary work.

If some people had their way, the only book we'd read would be the Bible.

Which could really trigger some people.

Thing is, if these students are that delicate, don't let them take the course. If they need the course to pass the program, don't let them pass the program. At some point they're going to have to join the real world to actually put that program to use.

Should the written policy come with a trigger warning in case any of the faculty have experienced trauma as a result of censorship in their past?

I don't think it's censorship. Just coddling taken to rediculous levels. Next students will sue because the prof reading a nursery rhyme triggers memories of their abuse or something. But all means add a warning to the prospectus that the course contains difficult material. But as I say, if the student can't handle it, don't make any allowances for them - they have to study a subject they can handle.

Gen Y/The Millenials are sure turning out to be a bunch of wimps and pussies. "I don't want to ever read/watch/hear anything that runs counter to my world-view! Respect my wishes at all times 'cause I'm delicate!". I'm wagering by the time I'm 70 I'll be greatly missing the extinct-by-then boomers because the millenials ended up being about a hundred times more obnoxious than the 1960's gen ever turned out to be. :|

Warning: this course will be presented by a heteronormative phallocentric member of the patriarchy and may cause re-traumatization of any woman who's previously been in contact with such a member (no pun intended, feminism isn't funny).

I don't know, I ran into this same thing when I was in student government, back in the mid-14th century. We were deciding on a name for a pizza joint (because this is teh kind of thing that student governments work on) and somebody suggested Slice Me Nice. We then got an extended lecture on the implicit misogynism in that name. I didn't want to see any "implicit misogynism" so I suggested the much more explicit "Bend Over Bitch Pizza." (Joking--that would have been an expellable offence.)

I could tell you guys stories easily the equal of these, and that was 20 years ago.

Then we graduate, move on and the radicals either eventually accept reality or go to work for the education board.

Maybe I'm naive, but when I hear Slice Me Nice, all I think of is this;
