Special Weather Statements for QuebecWOCN13 CWHX 192237
Special weather statement for Îles-de-la-Madeleine issued by
Environment Canada at 7:37 PM ADT Monday 19 April 2010.
The eyjafjoll volcano in iceland which erupted on 14 April 2010 has
now diminished in intensity. The plume continues to travel mainly
southeastward towards Northern Europe. Secondary lower circulations
are also dispersing ashes south-westward.
Given the plume's origin and trajectory, the issuance of volcanic ash
advisories for the event continues to fall under the responsibility
of the London volcanic ash advisory centre (vaac) operated by the uk
met office. The canadian vaac located at the canadian meteorological
centre (cmc) in Montréal has responsibility for the area located
immediately to the west of iceland and continues to monitor the
situation closely.
As per procedure, the official product is the one sent out by the
initial issuer, which is vaac-London. The latest official area of
the advisory produced by vaac-London shows an area for the possible
presence of ash just to the east and north of Newfoundland and
Labrador.
Satellite imagery does not support ash presence in significant
concentrations over the canadian area of responsibility.
Therefore the vaac-Montréal considers that there is a low probability
of volcanic ash presence over the area.
We will get another advisory update this evening from vaac-London as
they continue to be the responsible party for issuing the
notifications. Environment Canada continues to closely monitor the
situation.
