ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
When you see an old man place one hand on an oak dining room table and it raises a foot off of the floor and hovers, neither viagra nor Hookah happiness is involved...nor spirits. There has to be an underlying scientific explanation, that we just haven't explained yet.
So why isn't this old man allowing it to be tested scientifically? People have been pulling stunts like this since time immemorial - if it wasn't fakery, surely it would have been scientifically demonstrated by now. Let this old man do it in front of Randi and see what happens. I'm open to the idea that mind over matter is possible, but I also think most of the stuff you're likely to see is just trickery.
That table trick should be easy to prove/disprove. Invite the old man to levitate an object in a setting of the investigators choosing. Bada bing, either it works or it doesn't.
Remember, what you see with your own eyes isn't the truth. It's been repeatedly demonstrated in courts of law in regard to witness statements, and by "magicians" who are willing to reveal how they did their stunt.
